The last episode everyone was discussing their addictions to MMOs. I personally am a huge fan of World of Warcraft, and admit there were times when I let it get heavily into my life but I want you all to know that it is quite possible to enjoy these games a lot and play them "casually". You have to approach these games with the right mindset. There is a lot to do inside of an MMO, but if you focus on just a few aspects that you love, you can easily play it without devoting your whole life into it. I play it quite casually right now, just jumping in here and there when I have the chance. With the Random Dungeon Finder you can quickly jump into a dungeon, complete it in half then stop and then continue to go on with your day. If you are into PVP you can just jump into a battleground and have some fun. I found WOW to be most fun when you take your time and appreciate it as you would any other RPG. WOW has some of the deepest lore and story I have seen in any game, but that will become lost on you if you focus purely on keeping up with the latest set of gear or trying to reach the tops of the arena standings. With the new expansion Cataclysm coming out, they will be reworking all of the old world to give it a better story flow and progression flow. I would recommend everyone giving this game a trial if they haven't tried it before. If you think you will become too addicted from the trial, then stop. I just think you would really be missing out on an amazing experience if you didn't give this game a shot. Blizzard puts a large attention to detail in all of their games. I didn't get into Magic the Gathering when I was growing up for fear I would become addicted, but in life you just need to learn how to approach things in moderation. You really just have to sit down and play it in lighter batches to take it all in, before you become numb to it all. If you let the game become your life it will become more of a job than a hobby. |

World of Warcraft consumed 2 years of my life. I would spend 8-10 hours a day easily and not even know it. I finally burned out , but still have a subscription. I can't even bring myself to play 15 minutes a week to raid this will all change when Cata comes out , though *wink* |

I think WoW is an amazing game. It brings so many things to the table that no other MMOs do. I myself love WoW and CANNOT wait for Cataclysm. But I think what prince_david said is right. Basically, love what you want to love and do what you want to do in MMOs. If all you want to do is run around pretending you're a monster and /lick'ing people, then do it. As long as you're having fun, it doesn't matter what you're doing. When you play for reasons other than having a great time, that's when you know you have a problem and should seek help. |

I've been playing EVE Online since 2003. I have 4 accounts. I've played Star Wars Galaxies ( 2 accounts ) and over 18 months of gametime. I've played City of Heroes ( 3 accounts ). I have Final Fantasy 11 ( 1 account ). I have World of Warcraft ( 1 account ) that I tinker on and off with since 2006. I have 2 Everquest 2 accounts and have about a solid year playing. I have a Lord of the Rings account that is free now, so I am going to play that with a room mate when I move here in a few months. I have a Warhammer account. Disgrace of a game. Oh... and I have an Aion account. Edit: And an Age of Conan account with a lvl 40 on it from beta/launch. One day I might play it again. As soon as the PS3 get their Final Fantasy 14 I will be buying that. Addict, you might say. I never have juggled more than 3 at a time. EVE has always been my primary but I've juggled an alternate to play with local/internet friends. This doesn't even include the beta's I've done. Oh, and I suppose Global Agenda counts too, though I haven't played it much. Edited by hooflung128, Sep 23 2010, 07:58 PM.

WoW assumed my life for a long time. But then again, I was miserable with my job at the time and WoW was a way to escape. Sounds cheesy, but its true damn it!!! As much as I'd like to hate MMOs, truth is that MMOs are really fun in moderation. |

When I was a party animal in college ( and highschool... damned to it when being born in a college town ) I spent about 200 bucks a month on going out 3-4 times a week. 5-6 MMO accounts is a lot less. Hell, if I don't go to movies often or buy them on DVD (thank goodness for Netflix ) then MMO's are a hell of a lot cheaper. So College football and MMO's are my main escapism with consoles pulling in a third. It's actually on the cheap. |
