Seems like a waste of money. They keep looking for that happy medium where people will still pay for it without having the market turn on them. I'd take advantage of the promotions they will be offering, those seem worth it. However, I don't play online, especially not if I have to pay for it in general :)

Mw2 maps all over again. People complained about the overpriced mw2 maps yet they bought it in the masses. Doing that only shows MS that people will stay pay for their stuff for just about any price. Samething with this, read some of the comments in that gamestop link. Most of the people are pretty pissed off I'm sure some will actually act on the whole canceling sub thing but others will continue to pay. MS will continue to do this if we keep shelling out.

If they add more to the gold sub service I wouldn't have too much of a problem with it.

However, as it stands, the game that I played the most online (1 vs 100) has been canceled. The saying "less is more" need to be tuned slightly to "get less and pay more" in the case of XBOX live.

Just in time for Halo: Reach!

Not a big factor in the UK of Canada as they're only increasing month by month prices.

Canada won't be affected by the price increase?
Great news for me out of terrible news.

Given that game developers are really pushing the multiplayer aspect, and with high profile titles like Halo Reach coming out, the price increase is not a surprise. Based on the news release, the UK and Canada rates for monthly subscriptions are only going up by $1, and the US price increase is by $10 a year, which means that Canadians and Brits will by an extra $12 a year whist Americans only pay $10.

To be honest, it's not a huge amount of money but in principle it sucks. How much money does Microsoft need, and with the Playstation 3 gaining momentum and offering a free online service, is this a wise move?

Well this sucks for most of you guys :( but fortunatly this price change wont affect me! I'm currently paying for Xbox Live Gold on a month to month basis @ £4.99 a month, I'm based in the UK and that is the only type of XBL payment going up (to £5.99). If I continue paying month to month once it goes up I will be paying (for a year) £5.99 x 12 which equals £71.88. 1 year subscriptions cost on average between £35 and £40 depending on where you get them from. I will be switching over to a 1 Year Subscription therfore saving myself £30+.

If you follow the link below it will take you to Major Nelson's blog. It gives a little bit more information as to why they are changing the price.

"we have continually added more content and entertainment experiences for our members"

This is a quote from major nelson's blog, but can anybody think of features/content added to xbox live that we didn't/don't have to pay for?

Honestly, if you can't afford an extra 10$ per year, then you should A. Own a PS3 B. don't complain about it, because it is only 10$ per year, I can find that in my couch. I am also speaking in general, not about you guys here on the forums specifically., so do not get offended.

True, it's only +$10, not much. I would just pay $5-6 every month rather then throw away $60 since I don't go online all the time. $60 is a good amount of money you could waste on better things other than online play with a bunch of people cursing and fighting most of the time. :P

@KeeL246

It's only $10 for us, but is considerably more for MS.

The XBOX 360 has sold around 40 million units, lets say around half of those are gold subscribers.

So... $10 x 20 million users = $200,000,000 extra cash per year for MS.

They are gonna need a pretty big couch to stuff all of that extra money in to!

Don't get me wrong, I am quite happy to pay more for an improved service... However, If I do give someone more money, I want to see the extra that I am going to receive in return, so far I see there is no evidence of this from MS. At this point in time I feel like I might as well be buying "magic beans" from the local farmers market with my $10.
