What do people think of the new 360 controller? The controller was in desperate need of a good d-pad but personally I don't think it was wise to include a twistable d-pad; and taking the colours away from the other buttons is borderline retarded.

I know the buttons by their colours, not by their letters... I wonder if they'll be updating the dashboard to grey-out the onscreen icons? :P

I think it looks cool too, but to take out the coloured buttons is a case of style over function.

The whole D-pad rotates 90 degrees pushing the it up by a 1/4 of an inch. It just seems that they are adding something else that could break. Check out the video for a demonstration.

It smells like one step forwards, two steps back.

this is the same thing that they did wrong with the xbox 360 slim. only few minor upgrades that are not really needed and not worth paying the extra price for. same thing with this controller. the d-pad is just fine in my opinion on the old controller and almost none of the games out right now dont use it even activly.... and the colouring on the buttons is borderline retarded, black grey and two white i mean cmon.... microsoft is really fu*king up right now with these stupid new versions of their console and controllers that have no real upgrades worth the price and the new +10 bucks for gold membership. i think microsoft is getting very greedy.

I'll be buying one when it comes out. But I do agree it does look dull.

I agree with S1r Panda. Microsoft is re-releasing old versions of they're products with minor updates. This controller though looks awesome, imo. I like nice and plain designs like these so I think its pretty cool and I may just buy one when it comes out.

Looks cool! Even if I pick one up, it won't be for a while. I'm happy with the controllers I have already.

This is awesome news. From using friends' 360 controllers and trying out demo kiosks and such, I could immmediatly tell that the D-Pad is pretty bad. So this could be cool, but why did they think it was a good idea to gray the buttons? I'm assuming they did it to make it look more serious (no fun colors), and to differentiate it, but come on! I'm gonna get a 360 soon most likely, so having to get to know the buttons with different colors may be difficult.

I think this is overall good news, I'd say people can adjust to it. If you've owned a 360 for a while it may not be a big deal for you, you probably practically know where which button is without looking.

Stop flip-flopping! Are you getting it soon or next year ("maybe")?! xD

On topic: Looks ... unnecessary. I prefer the old 360's design, and I prefer the old controller's design (I have no problem with the current D-pad). Stop screwing up, Microsoft! >.>

Take later this year as my current answer, but yes, I predict I will continue to flip-flop. :P

I struggled using the D-pad with Street Fighter 2 HD, I think they needed to do something with it. When playing most beat em'ups the controller will normally take a bit of a thrashing, It's only going to be a matter of time until before the twisting D-pad becomes lose and breaks; Why couldn't they just have sold the controller with the D-pad in it's "up state"!?

I have never learnt the controller buttons by the letters on them, only by the colours/colors. I will be avoiding this controller.

I wonder if they're gonna update the game Scene it with a new achievements for playing three rounds using grey buttons?

Hmm... that is pretty awesome, I really think the twisting of the D pad is a clever idea.

I for one like the greyed out buttons, I was never big into the almost crayon aesthetic appeal that I would get when I looked at my controller.

I'm fine with my pink controller, don't think I would get this one, did anyone else notice that the analogs are different on top? There are not the little grip "nubs" anymore. I wonder if this makes having a grip on them a bit more slippery, or if that overall circled out groove improves it.

Yeah there is really no use to getting this controller since all that is different is the d-pad and color scheme. Also, the d-pad is rarely used unless its necessary in a game. I wish they didn't overprice it but i'm still going to get it mainly because I want a new controller and it comes with a recharger, I think.

Its great they fixed the Dpad, its so inaccurate and clumbersome. Even typing in the code to get MS points can be a pain.

The the 2 obvious reasons i wont get one are the lack of colour on the buttons and the fact its only bundled with the charge n play packs. I get that they're selling it like that to get more cash and to get rid of all these charge kits seeing as no-one buys them etc, but the lack of colour on the buttons? There is no point in that.
If some one is new to the console, telling them to hit the yellow button is much more helpful than saying "Y".

With the 360 slim, Halo Reach, Gears of War 3, Fable 3, and now this new controller, a 360 is looking very tempting to buy again.

Does anyone know if you can buy a wired controller? I want a wired controller with a good D-Pad for my PC.
