Episode 6 will see a new audio facelift thanks to a good friend of the show

The Good
- The audio quality between different people sounds a little more even and equal.

The Bad
- After listening to every minute of every previous podcast, I had to call it quits on this after about 40 minutes.
- The tempo was just way too fast.
- The show was hijacked. Where's Pete? Where's Gamester? I'm hearing a conversation between two guys I've never heard before and they're hosting the show now.
- I felt like at any moment the show was going to cut into the latest Lady Gaga track followed by an interview with Adam Lambert and news from Perez Hilton.

I can't honestly say i'd continue listening to the show in this format. The original podcast was genuine. It sounded like a bunch of friends just hanging out while we listened in on their conversation. It was a direct reflection of their youtube channels. This week I felt like I downloaded "All Gen Top 40 w/ host Ryan Seacrest" which doesn't represent HCG, Pete, or Gamesters style in the slightest. After reading some of the reviews, it looks like my opinion is in the minority which is good for the podcast. All the best and no offense.

Well Johnny obviously couldnt make it to this episode, so thats 1 down. Pete himself stated that his knowledge in the arcade side of gaming is somewhat limited so he wasnt able to contribute as much as he normally does. Gamester did pick up the slack though and talked quite a bit throughout the whole episode so I dont know why you think he didnt. TheEMUreview also did a great job filling in.

You do bring up some valid points however, the show is definitely straying away from its original purpose which was "just a couple of gamers talking about anything that comes up" But you have to realize that this podcast is still practically brand new, and they are still experimenting with different options to find out exactly what works well and what doesnt.

For our next episode I will suggest that maybe we only cut out long awkward pauses in the editing process, and see what people like best.

well on the bright side it would make it easier to edit like that.

(oops, I edited your post instead of replying to it -Pete)

Thats what I suggested to Jason. Not only will it be easier to edit and take up way less hours of his time, but it will also be easier for some people to listen to that were not a fan of the fast paced style of Episode 6, which I realize would be a turn off for some. I did not forget that the original intention of the show was a "natural, sit down and listen to gamers talk" kinda show. Either way look forward to Episode 7, its our PAX episode and Johnny and Gamester have tons to share with everyone for sure, stay tuned!

I didn't want to be the one making this assertion, before being rushed by many people here who disagree with me, I had to call it quits less than a half an hour through. I, like you, would otherwise have had listened all the way through the podcast. For someone who's multi-tasking with headphones on, it isn't very intuitive for me to keep up with the conversation when there is no moment's pause. This would have been ideal for producing a 3 or 4 minute clip, ie. what lady gaga and the top directors on youtube have been doing. They're attracting the general audience, not a niche as you guys are; where a slow in depth discussion is more important than keeping the general audience's attention active.

This is by no means disrespect to TheEMUreview, unlike the former guy, I've been subscribed to you for a couple of months now. A big fan of your Kirby review.

The bottom line is the audio format is improved; the audio from each of you is leveled out, and a little more equalized. The pacing does feel a bit accelerated, but I think once the compression issues and pause editing are tweaked, it won't be quite so unsettling.

All in all, I think it's great! Jason (EMU) is a welcomed addition, and even more, I found that he really contributed to the quality of the show with his insights and opinions (not just with technical editing).

Personally, I could do without the intro, a little too morning zoo meets "Sunday, Sunday, Sunday" Monster Truck for me; but whatever, it's just an intro. The quality and content of the podcast is what I'm after.

As always, great job all; welcome EMU, I look forward to your contributions , and can't wait for the next show!!

Hey everyone

I personally want to thank everyone for their input. I know that Gamester, HCG and Pete also appreciate your input. Your thoughts are important to me because for all the new changes your talking about I am responsible for. As you all know I approached the guys offering my services with helping improve their podcast. Its a fine line between keeping the show balanced, sounding like a podcast should and maintaining pace so its consistant throughout.

I hope you all know that I in now way am trying to alter the podcast in a negative way, please remember I am here to help... So id like to address a few concerns I've read hereon the forums, Id like to explain some things..

The "tempo" or pace of the show was different for a few different contributing reasons 1. John (blkdog) has been doing podcasts for 5 years, and is comfortable and familiar with speaking publicly. He also is very passionate and excited about his arcade games and hobby, so for starters. His enthusiasm may have caught you off guard, John also uses a good quality microphone, so his voice from the start comes in louder and cleaner than the rest of the guys. So his presence was already greater right out of the shoot. 2. I did edit out quite a bit of mess ups and pauses. This show was over 3 hours before I edited it. Not that thats a bad thing, I dont see any problem with a 3 hour podcast, but if its 3 hours with 30 min of pauses and dead air (which it was) thats an issue with me. If I left it the way it was you all would be right here saying "well.. there were like, so many pauses I didn't like that".

Next, the show wasn't "hijacked" I think thats kind of harsh to say actually. Listen to the beginning, Happy Console Gamer had to be somewhere else for that show so theres one thing different, I was asked to fill in his place, thats the second thing different, and our guest John, was very informative and excited to discuss his passion, so he did talk a lot per our asking him on the show. Thats why we have guests, so they do most of the talking through sections about their field. Also Pete admittedly stated he didn't know a ton about arcades and didn't mind us discussing it. Just a few things to keep in mind before you call the show "hijacked". I believe Gamester spoke quite a bit throughout the podcast actually.. This episode was planned out to be this way.

When the show gets compared to "Lady gaga followed by news from Perez Hilton" is a comment I do take offense to. I have done my best to improve the podcast with the audio quality and cutting the pauses out. The pace of the show is fast and continues along without a hitch. I also know change can be hard for some people. I also know that nobody can please everybody, so change is a risk we all are more than willing to take.

I have a solution here, Ill find a fine balance between keeping the pace of the show how it was recorded, and only edit out the long awkward pauses. I want everyone to be happy here, so Im glad to be hearing your feedback. Dont worry we will find a happy ground that everyone will enjoy Im sure of it. We have received more positive comments with the new format over negative, so I'm not going to completely change it just to get more negative comments from the people who now think its great.. make sense?

Audio is what I do for a living and I take it very seriously. This isn't just a podcast, its a show that represents gaming culture, history and friendship. But, you all know this already, thats why your commenting about it :) Look forward to Episode 7 guys and gals, I hope i've been able to clear thing up or at least explain a bit to make it clearer. Feel free to PM me or contact me directly if you have any other things you'd like to discuss personally.

AGG FTW ;)

-Jason

EMU,

No worries man!! You were awesome, and certainly a qualified and competent addition to the AGG podcast. I welcome your input, and think that your contributions to the show were spot on. Though it may not have been all things to everyone, no one can deny that the quality of the audio was much improved from the previous podcasts (no offense Pete, you did well with the tools you had at the time).

I look forward to future contributions, and hearing the evolution of the show's format as everyone's contributions keep building!!

I have to say, I was a little turned off by the pace of episode 6 as well. The reasons have already been covered by other people, so I don't need to go into them. Actually, I'm a little relieved that it wasn't just me.

I usually listen to the show in chunks, and I only heard the first 30 minutes last week. I have not been compelled to listen to the rest of it, but I considered that maybe also I simply wasn't as interested in the subject matter this time.

Something else I wanted to mention, however, was the profanity. Now, I wasn't offended by it, and I don't usually mind it, but it's something Pete seemed to be careful about in previous episodes. I was wondering if it was left in by accident, or if it simply won't be bothered with from now on.

Well Pete's personal style is to never use profanity in his videos on his youtube channel. AGG isnt just Pete though, being hosted by gamester and HCG aswell.

Although I do think it would suit the podcast to refrain from the use of vulgar mannerisms, a guest shouldn't be restricted from expressing themselves however they feel comfortable. Wouldn't it be ridiculous for someone who might have the charisma of AVGN be told to settle down? Wouldn't it be even more annoying for 'fuckin' to be replaced with a moment's pause? Dunno. Sounds like a mixed dice.

Have listened to all of the podcasts and enjoyed them.

Ive been a subscriber to all the main contributers of the podcast for a long time on youtube (2 years+)

One thing...the 6th ep was over 300meg. I subscribe to another podcast which is 6 hours or so usually and it rarely hits 200meg and there sound quality is just as good.

Its not a big deal but wondered why yo podcasts are so large in terms of megs.

I have to concur with Noddy. My poor nano screams when I upload the 'cast. It's not a big deal, but just wondering if Jason knows a way to compress the format without losing too much audio quality? My iPod storage real estate would be greatful... ;)
