I was! I finished it. Wonderful game. I was completely blown away by this game. I borrowed it from a friend at first. Played quite a bit of it. Then said screw it and went and bought it myself! :D

This was technically my first Ys game. I play a tad tiny bit of 1. Thats it. Never anything serious. May be a quick 20 minutes. After playing Seven, I HAVE to play the rest of the games. I bought Ys Book 1 and 2 off the virtual console. Then Ark of Napishtim. I'm still looking into the rest of them.
I can't find a detailed list on what is released in the US and what isn't.

Anywho.
Who else has picked up this game and what do you think of it?

No one else has played it apparently? Or has this topic slipped by everyone?

I haven't played it because I wasn't sure. Does the game have a good plot/story?

Ys 1, 2 and 3 made it to the US, but 4 (both versions The Dawn of Ys on the Turbo Ghrafx-CD and Mask of the Sun on the Superfamicom [remake of Mask of the Sun was on the PS2]) and 5 (normal and Expert [A remake on the PS2 as well]) did not. 6 made it as well as Seven, of course. Ys Strategy only saw a release in Japan and Europe, so far. Ys Origin did not make it either. The enhance remake of Ys 1 & 2 on the PSP as well as The Oath in Felghana will hopefully see a release in the States by Xseed.

I'm glad you liked Ys Seven and are interested in the other games:D I played Ys Seven a few months back. I enjoyed it a lot and thought it was a very game, and a good game to reintroduce over in the States.

Well, I completed Ys Ark of Napishtim. Then I started Ys 1 and...
Spoilers for people who haven't played the game

I am TRULY loving this series. Unfortunately, when I finish Ys book I and II, I'm out of Ys games. I may have to resort to emulation for the rest. A feet that I don't want to take.
I'm going to mainly because I can get an english patch for Ys 4 :D

I'm really, really poor at the moment, and only have enough cash for one game. I was contemplating getting Ys Seven, but I can only import it. (It's not out in Europe).

Not sure if it's worth the $50 asking price, espicially since Dead Rising 2, Deadly Premonition and a bunch of other titles are on the horizon.

Are there many side quests / things to do after the main story arc?

There is around 20 sidequests. You can complete most of them after the game is done. (There is a certain point in the game where some of the quests get rendered as "Failed". So do the side quests as you play the game to be able to complete them all.)

The game is a pretty long length. You can go from anywhere between 30 - 40 hours and beyond.
I completed the game in 43 hours, with most of the sidequests completed, and all the ultimate weapons.
