I recently upgraded my PS2 fat into a PS2 slim for about $10 and loved the space that I now have on my entertainment center lol. I noticed a serious increase in video and sound quality just by upgrading the system and it is still running on an old R/F. Are there any other noticeable differences that the slim has compared to the old fat model?

I also plan on upgrading to component cables shortly, R/F really blows lol

There's really no difference except the size. Virtually and performance wise, they are the same. Although based from experience, the slim is prone to overheating...

Slim and fat differences? The slim actually works.
The Fat PS2s have a horrible failure rating. I had 2 of them die within weeks of each other. Bad luck? May be, but many of my friends also had dead Fat PS2s all for the same reason. Disc Read Errors.
I then stopped buying PS2s. Slims came around. I decided to give Sony 1 last chance with the PS2. I've had it since then. No problems.

Slims are far superior to the Fats.

Hmmm well I have another input to add to this. I HAD a working slim PS2. I nudge it since the a/v cable got pulled and now it won't spin any games. I find it complete bull that my PS2 won't spin any games just because it was nudged when it was on :/

I noticed the difference being that one of them was fat and the other was slim :)

Hahha, I've disassembled my slim PS2 a bit, the worm spindle needed some TLC, and my AR kit had kinda fallen apart, obstructing certain disc movements. It's an interesting bit of kit :)
