Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind came out around the PS2's timeframe for original XBOX and PC, but unfortunately never got a port to PS2. The only other one I can think of that's kind of 'open-worldish' is Final Fantasy 12. FF12 is a great game, but so many people don't like it because they compare it too harshly to the other FF games. It doesn't really play the same. It's kind of an MMO style gameplay but single player. (Of course the MMO FF11 is an option on the fat PS2, if you want to find the stuff to play it.) If I were you I would either pick up a copy of FF12 because that's about as close as I think you'll get, or play a GTA style game because there were a few of those on PS2. Another option would be to get Fallout 3 or Oblivion on your computer and play them. If your computer's not up to speed for those, then search online you can probably find Elder Scrolls for a decent price.(Gamestop seems to carry the Morrowind GOTY edition for $20.)

My problem is that i'm a Mac user, which sucks for Gaming.

Anyways, FF 12 isn't really the type of game i'm looking for, but thanks for tanking time to answer me. :)

I dont think there were any to be honest, i think it would have been a little much for the ps2. Even when playing morrowind on the xbox it feels a little sluggish, though its still perfectly playable.

Hmmm... I'm not sure how open world it is, but I did some research, and people seem to call it an open world RPG. Check out 'Monster Hunter'. The game actually looks really fun to play.

The Champions of Norrath series has a kind of open world MMO Rpg type feel to it. It's a really cool hack-n-slash action Rpg series set in the EverQuest realm and is sort of a spin off to the Baldur's Gate series. You might wanna watch some youtube footage and see if you think you would like it.
