So yesterday I was cleaning up and I found out that someone had left an Arby's cup full of Mountain Dew behind my globe. It was kind of an obscure angle of view that I cannot see normally, so it was never in my normal line of sight. Anyway, I had just decided to dust and found out that my Rockman & Forte store display had received some water damage from the cup. Apparently the lamination was not solid and it ended up sucking up the loose liquid seeping out of this cup. Arby's cups are not known for their durability, and will usually leak within a couple of hours from purchase (especially if ice was in the cup). Unfortunately, the display has about a 1 inch strip of ruined ink running up it, and I'm not sure if it will keep spreading through. The lamination is starting to bubble up as well. In all of my time on ebay, I have never seen another display like it. It's from 1998 from the Super Famicom release of MRockman and Forte (Mega Man & Bass). It's sad, I was just thinking last week about getting it framed, too. Sigh, the dealings of poor care. Before: ![]() After: ![]() ![]() It's a lot more noticeable in real life than it is in the images. I hate to say "things happen" but unfortunately I guess they do. Unfortunately, I know not who left the cup in here, and personally, I don't care. I wish everyone would take their garbage with them when they leave, but ultimately it's my responsibility to take care of my collection. At any rate, what are some of your battle scars of collecting? What items have you broken or damaged over your time of collecting? This can range anywhere from breaking a controller out of rage, to scratching that CD based game worth $200. From UPS damaging a package by leaving it in the rain to tripping and breaking a standee. I want to hear your stories, as well as advice to others on how to fix it! EDIT: Removed the bigger images, they were stretching the forum and it looked bad. Edited by kuroi, Nov 14 2010, 05:04 AM.

The only casualty of collecting i have is when i left america to come to england, i left my entire video game collection in my room. We lived in new york, but my mom decided to move to florida, obviously taking everything in my room with her. I had a lot of very good and expensive video games My sister, took it upon herself to sell my games, without asking me first - and obviously she sold them at a gamestop So, for example, I had Final Fantasy Tactics, VI, VIII all in mint condition, she exchanged them all, for a bratz game.... yes... A, bratz game - not even two of em To this day I don't have a clue what games I actually have left (if any) and she can't be bothered to go and have a look. And from what I understand, she put them in the shed - so who knows what kind of condition they are in now |

Ouch, that's awful. I would have sealed all of my stuff away before I left, to be honest. I managed to find another one of these displays on ebay, but I don't know if I want to pay for it again. |

I sometimes worry that with Boxed games that I'll step on them and crush it :/ I've actually strayed more towards cartridge only for the fact that they're cheaper, and I won't freak out if I accidently step on it lol |

My casualty was recent, but luckily, quick action saved it. The day New Vegas came out, my friends cat pushed a cup of water over onto my box for New Vegas, soaking half of the cover art. Luckily, taking the cover art and placing it in the pages of a large, flat book, dried it and flattened it pretty well, no smearing or anything. |

I wonder how many things get slightly damaged and people just pitch them for minor wear? At any rate, just inspected my Harvest Moon cow plush, and it's pink bandanna is getting loose. I should probably fix that. |

It seems to be a recurring theme about water or liquid causing damage. My casualty turned happened when I was moving an old 21" monitor, not the light LCD ones. This was a big 50lb crt kind. I was lifting it and moved it and set it down very heavily and I heard a loud crack. It turned out that it was my Chase the Chuck Wagon cartridge for the Atari 2600. |

One of the only casualties I have was very recent. I was on an airplane with a bunch of DS games in my bag and some how some way only one game fell out. The game was Wario Ware DIY. It still boggles my mind that only that one title was missing when they were all together in the same place. Still makes me mad to this day. |

@Kuroi. At least it was mountain dew and wasnt a cup of pepsi or dr pepper etc. still a sad story though. I dont really have any bad moments, maybe one actually... I have a case for FFVI on the ps1 but have no idea where the disc went, either i sold it by leaving it in my old ps1 or my ex girlfriend took revenge for stealing hours of my time. Either way people are charging a fortune for just the disc. |

Debian: Ouch, Chase the Chuckwagon is expensive Sushi_b: I hate when that happens, becuase you are always SO SURE that they were put up, and you never know exactly when they slipped out. Kharnivore: Yeah, the damage was mostly recovered. The laminate is still bubbled up at the bottom a bit, and the bottom corners are still dirty, but it looks better than it did when it was wet. That stinks about Final Fantasy 6 though. All bugs and load times aside, it was a good port. |

I had a boxed copy of Banjo Tooie that was in great condition along with the strategy guide. My dog tore the box to pieces and my mom threw out the strategy guide. So heart breaking. |

Ah I forgot about one of the worse things that happened to my collection. I was out one night until late and came home around 2AM after there was a huge rain storm earlier in the night and my basement was completely flooded. All of my original game boxes for my NES, Xbox, DC and others were destroyed and I was just barely able to save my GC/GBA player, Xbox, SNES and a few others that were almost under water. It was terrible. |
