Ladies and gentlemen, a giant has fallen. G4TV (Formerly known as TechTV) has been taken off of Directv. If you don't have Directv then you have nothing to worry about, but for the many of us who do, there will be no more G4. Though G4's programing hasn't been too good for the past year or so, I will always remember the good days when I would come home from school and watch X-Play every weekday and late at night when I had nothing to do I could always turn on Cinematech and watch random gameplay from some wacky Japanese game. Though they have fallen from grace in many peoples eyes, G4 was still, and is still, the only channel about technology and games on TV, and they will be very missed by us Directv users. |

G4 was never known as TechTV, as far as programming goes. TechTV was originally ZDTV (Ziff Davis company), though later went through an acquisition which led to the name change. The scheduling and programming remained the same, and they were in fact, the same channel, albeit a different name. G4 was an entirely different channel, and its programming was incredibly different from TechTV. G4 was primarily a videogames channel, and usually featured programming that were on the finer parts of game making (see anything by Tommy Tallarico). TechTV on the other hand, was mainly about all things electronic. From videogames, to PC help, to what gadgets are coming out to help your life. However, in 2004 (I believe), G4 bought out the rights to TechTV, and merged the two channels together. While this brought their programming to new viewing areas, it completely destroyed the TechTV brand. Once official, the new channel was (temporarily) G4TechTV. In the merger, nearly all of TechTV's original programming was lost. The only remaining on air personalities were Kevin Rose, Adam Sessler, and Morgan Webb. The only remaining shows were X-Play and The Screen Savers. While X-Play remained virtually the same, The Screen Savers was renamed Attack of the Show. It lost all of its original charm and most of its finer points of discussion. Shortly after the merger, Kevin Rose went off to found Digg.com. Today, G4 is a hollow shell of either of its origins. TechTV had programming for everything electronic, while G4 had some of the best gaming related programming to date. It is now nothing but syndicated "reality" shows and Ninja Warrior. It will not be missed. Also, it is still available on many other cable providers, so do not despair. |

Although I dont really like G4 I still liked to watch X-Play now and then. This also means no more E3 on T.V for Directv customers like me. |

Coverage for E3, TGS, ComicCon, and a few various other things are definitely the biggest things that will be missed for our friends with DirecTV. However, as more and more companies are listing streaming content, I can see this problem being alleviated. I was definitely glad to be able to watch it on the TV rather than read about it days later online, like we used to have to. I'm sure something will pop up to fill the void. |

Things are getting out of hand with all the contracts and what not with all the different providers. I know it's a little off topic, but I just realized I didn't have espn on my time warner cable as of yesterday. I do happen to have a problem with my cable box at the moment, but this was before that happened. I'm hoping to get it back, but we'll see. All these channels and providers need to come to some agreements, I dont pay any less even though I'm getting less and less channels. |

Nothing will ever hurt me more than the day that Monsters HD was removed from iO TV. THAT was a channel that was literally on in my house non stop. Nothing on TV? Put on Monsters HD and watch unedited, HD, no commercials horror classics! I miss that

Fox and Dish are still working out their problems, and i know that the ESPN problem with Time Warner angered quite a few people watching football this weekend. It almost makes me want to start a pirate TV station, like in Wayne's World. I blame mergers and acquisitions. |

I actually thought about switching when I saw it was gone. Not really because i'd miss too much but losing G4 is like losing an old pal. And now I can't watch E3 since my internet isn't fast enough to stream anything

Comcast is... eh... not the best provider. Granted, it's widely available in areas where there are not many other options, but they are so subversive in their services. Throttling bandwidth and blocking websites are not kosher approaches in any way, shape, or form. I am glad that it is at least better than what you had. I think the real problem is that these big businesses want to charge more for less content, and they just write off anyone who does not bend to their will (you know, instead of compromising). As long as their are options, I am always willing to shop around. |

The people over at AOTS Attack of the Show screwed me and my friends we helped them out big time. A week later after helping them out after comic-con I ask if they would help us out. AOT would not even return my phone call. They still befit once a week from what I did for them. |

I'm surprised it took that long to pull the plug. G4 was basically 95% Ninja Warrior, Cops, and Cheaters none of which I have any interest in watching. Will miss X-Play since I like Sessler. |
