one moment that i remember is when my older brother got a power glove from toys r us and this was back when toys r us had the setup where they had all the game related stuff in a caged off area that looked more like a pawn shop in a bad neighbor hood lol and you had to bring them a card taken from an isle and they would get you your item and shove it through a hole in the cage. i also remember when he got the genesis the same way.i always thought that was kinda cool cause it made it feel like you were getting something awesome so awesome that they had to keep it under tight security lol. |

I used to order from small advertisments in the back of console magazines, especially in the ps1 generation when i had a little more money. I lived in a tiny town so it was actually just easier to do this. Eventually my tiny town got a video games store, i think me and my cousin were its best customers. It would always supply the more unknown titles. HMV and virgin etc would just have the big titles but i would always find my smaller titles here. Real good memories of that store. |

yeah i remember catalogs back in the day like i remember a sears catalog must of been late 80's because i remember seeing a sega master system in it the first gen model not the later model.the one thing i remember the most of that era was that even places like kmart and walmart kept most of the games in the back and that all you saw in the cases were empty boxes or the games/system was kept behind the counter at the register. |

Yeah, ordering games was always a bit of pot luck sometimes. I remember calling a company and was talking to this guy for like half an hour trying to get a game cause the one i wanted was sold out. I think thats how i got alundra or something similar on the ps1. It was much cheaper than getting it in stores though, even after P&P. I seem to forget that back in the 8-16 bit era we were paying like £50-60 on new games. I grudge paying over £30 these days and i earn way more than i did back then haha. |
