I was just playing Crash Bandicoot 3: WARPED and I thought I would make a post and see what kind of responses if any I would get. I remember being 10 or 11 years old and renting a Playstation from the local video rental store on Thanksgiving weekend 1996. The first game I put in was Crash Bandicoot and I have to say I love Mario and I love Sonic, but I think Crash Bandicoot is my all time favorite mascot for any system. I don't even know if Naughty Dog is still around, but I have to say I love you guys for coming up with Crash Bandicoot. I will never forget, I use to be such a big fan of the series and still am. But I remember being in chorus class in 7th grade and a classmate asks me "Guess what game just came out" and I respond "I know Crash Bandicoot 3 just came out and I can't wait to get it." and he responded "No, dude, why would I play that....Metal Gear Solid is the game I'm talking about." and I thought to myself....Pff Metal Gear Solid HA...like that game will lead to anything..../shrug. Who knew? But the point that I'm trying to make is that the series had me so hooked and it was just a platformer, but platformers to me were video games. That's the only kind of gaming that I knew of at the time. And then my friend introduced me to Final Fantasy 7 and I never looked at video games the same way again. Which to me was sad because I closed alot of video games off to play nothing but RPGs, but also opened up alot of games I never even took a second look at. I would like to thank HappyConsoleGamer and SplatterTrigger especially, I really enjoyed hearing your memories on your video game experiences. Thanks for taking the time to read my posts and please leave comments. -sevenup |

I know exactly what you mean dude ![]() RPG's have always been my thing since I was about 8 years old! Then when I was about 14-15 I started playing FPS games on the PC and closed myself off from alot of games and then since I have mainly played FPS/Shooters, Halo, Gears etc and I missed out on SO MANY good RPGs and now my gaming time is just a mish mash of randomness. I very rarely have time for RPGs now and I miss that. I sat a played Final Fantasy XIII till I finished it, and clocked around 100+ hours and I know loads of people don't like it, but I loved it and sparked my love for RPGs again. I have been collecting them and now I have around 30+ to play from the past 10 years xD Wish me luck with that haha! Also Naughty Dog are still around, check out Uncharted 1 & 2 on PS3! Awesome games

I have always been something of an "equal opportunity" gamer, since I grew up in the NES and SNES days and we had a good selection of platformers, RPGs, shooters and even a few sports games I liked (NBA Jam anyone?) But I agree that we go through phases where we focus on one particular kind of game and a lot of great titles pass us by. That seems to be especially the case with the current generation, since FPS games dominate the landscape and many great games just slide under the radar. My two greatest gaming memories surround Castlevania III on the NES and Final Fantasy III on the SNES. Both were games that I, a Mario-obsessed kid, would have blindly dismissed had my older brother not forced me to play. Castlevania III opened my eyes to the more challenging platformers, and then Final Fantasy III hooked me for hours on end and got me into RPGs, which I had dismissed as being boring and pointless. I made it a mission to track down and play all the ones I missed over the years. Every gamer, regardless of which generation they hail from, has stories like this and this is what makes us lifetime gamers. I'm sure I'll still be playing when I'm a senile old man, hooked to a life-support machine and still trying to beat Mega Man 2 ![]() |

Great posts guys. I myself just played Castlevania SOTN for the first time last week. That game is AMAZING!!!! I have heard so many things about the game and I just had to play it. I also played the first few stages of Super Castlevania 4 and the music in both games are great. That's probably one of the main reasons I like those games......the gameplay is great too.

For a long time I focused on beat em' ups on the SNES. From Final Fight, Combatribes, Street Fighter, Super Double Dragon, Battletoads Double Dragon, Ninja Turtles etc It stemmed from my addiction for them on the NES. I owned double dragon 1, 2 and 3 on the NES as well as Battletoads and the TMNT Arcade game. I missed out on all the final fantasy games. I even missed out on Zelda for the NES until the SNES was nearly out because I had turtle vision...er I mean tunnel vision. I kind of regret it, but hey that is why we go back now to right our wrongs!!! Edited by hooflung128, Nov 24 2010, 02:23 PM.

I was a platformer guy. My first system was my cousin's Gameboy Color. He was selling it so he could buy the original Gameboy Advance. The main game I played for it was Super Mario Land. No, scratch that, it was the ONLY game I played for it. My parents would tell me to go outside and get some fresh air, so I would bring Super Mario Land out with me and sit on the front step, playing it. I would always go to the nearby thrift store to see if they had any games for it (I'm pretty sure I got DuckTales and Dennis the Menace from there). My first console was a Nintendo 64. My aunt was getting married, so her fiancee gave his to me. I remember there being so many games, but the main one I played (not the only one this time, however) was Super Mario 64. I remember taking turns with my uncle and my dad. I was never any good at it, but I had fun. At the time, I thought I would never like RPGs. The insanely high damage you could do turned me away from the genre quickly. How could you keep track of all of that? Then came Paper Mario. It was at a nearby Movie Gallery that was selling all of their N64 titles (the Gamecube had already come out by the time I got my uncle's N64). It was an RPG, but it was different. You didn't do high-number damage. I loved it. The reason I asked for a Gamecube for Christmas? My cousins told me that Paper Mario 2 would be coming out on it. Ironically, I didn't get TTYD until the Wii had come out. I remember playing the demo for it at Toys R Us, though, excited for when I would be able to play the real thing. And, here I am now. I got a Playstation 2 last Christmas, making it my first non-Nintendo console, and RPGs are my favorite genre, thanks to Paper Mario introducing me to them.
