I think theres a few topics already like this, but you have asked to explain why, most people just list the games and give no reason. I cant say this is "THE BEST GAME" as my opinion changes all the time but im gonna have to say bomberman. Probably saturn bomberman.

This game is timeless...
The graphics still look good today, thier lush, vibrant and have a real cool cutsey look.
The controls are responsive...which is a neccessity in bombermans case!
The music is just amazing too, especially when its sudden death time and everything speeds up and puts you on the edge of your seat.
I think the single player is strong enough to warrant playing and gets real challenging in later stages. Its real good practice fo what comes next...

THE MULTIPLAYER! You can keep your COD's, halo's, WoW's, Mario Party's, super monkey ball and even goldeneye. Bomberman has THE best multiplayer in my opinion. Get 4 people in a room and theres nothing like it, i've seen grown men scream in frustration and in the sheer excitment of running away from bomb blasts, i've witnessed the closest friendships torn apart as someone tried his luck getting speed boots and got blocked in with a bomb by his best friend.

Amazingly i've never heard anyone swear playing it, but how could you be mad at a bomberman? Thier so damn cute!

I'm sure that I've answered this before at some point, but what the heck. You've essentially asked people what their favorite console game of all time is, which for most gamers is like trying to pick a favorite child. Near impossible.

My choice is relatively easy, since it's a game I've played through, beaten and gone back to repeatedly. Castlevania III: Dracula's Curse for the NES. I received this game as a gift when I was 10 years old and I thought then (as I do now) that it was a big step forward for the series. Introducing non-linear paths with different levels and the ability to use different characters with vastly different abilities was a fantastic progression, and it made the game incredibly addictive for me. I remember rushing home from school to play it every day. I go back to this game every couple of years and play through it beginning to end, and I have never gotten tired of it despite the fact that I have discovered everything possible. I know where all the hidden items are, the best routes to take, the patterns that the bosses fight in, etc. The game is not perfect and I'm sure others would scoff at my choice, but Castlevania III is where it's at for me.

Its a damn fine game, have you played the japanese release of it? Im lead to believe it has extra chips, or better chips anyway for better visual effects like the cogs in the clock tower and another sound channel to beef up the music.

If i have the nerve to break the region lock on my nes i might just get it.

dark cloud 2, loved that game to bits. it has in my opion the BEST weapons.

you start with a small little wrench and pea shooter, then you can turn those into a rocket launcher and gods fist.
Good vibes?

My favorite game for my 3 favorite consoles are...

Mega Man Legends for the PS1. I can't explain why...it's just perfect to me.

BioShock for the PS3. Perfect story, amazing environment, great characters. Not to mention the amazing way the Splicers are characterized.

Mega Man II for the NES. SO much of my time has gone to this game. At least 1 year of my life, I'm willing to say. Hahaha.

This is only out of games I have played, so these are just current favorites.

Super Mario Galaxy 2 for Wii
Ratchet & Clank: Up Your Arsenal for PS2
Spyro the Dragon for PS1
Banjo-Kazooie and The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time for Nintendo 64
Yars' Revenge for Atari 2600
Sonic the Hedgehog 2 for Genesis
Panzer Dragoon II: Zwei for Saturn
Sonic Adventure for Dreamcast
Metroid Prime for GameCube
Henry Hatsworth and the Puzzling Adventure for Nintendo DS
Jet Set Radio Future for Xbox

I'm not sure about other consoles (like NES too HARD to choose! lol), but these are the ones I can think of...
