So guys, the day has come. No, this isn't about my health, or anything having to do with the site or youtube. My Xbox 360, which I've had since the launch night of the console, died tonight. It's gone, and it's out of warranty.

I saw this coming, so I actually went out and bought a Slim as an Xmas present to myself, but I know the average lifespan of an Xbox 360, and as mine has lasted since launch night, it's still sad. Farewell, friend.

To find a use for this thread, let's hear some of your saddest console/game burnout stories. What was your worst experience with a beloved electronic kicking the bucket?

What happened to your 360? Since it's out of warranty you might be able to fix it yourself and bring it back to life or atleast sell it since you've already ordered another one.

You have my sympathy, but to be honest, an launch model Xbox 360 that's lasted until now is almost unheard of, so congrats on dodging the RROD bullet for so long. My sad story concerns my Playstation 2 and it's probably the stupidest thing I've done, gaming-wise. I fell out of gaming for a while and I decided to give away my PS2 to a friend as a Christmas present. The games I gave with it include Ico, Rez and the Suikoden games, all of which are quite valuable now. Sad as that is, my friend lost the system and the games when his home was burglarized. My PS2 was probably cursed!

Hm, my Sega CD was fried after a friend put the wrong AC adapter in it, really bummed about that, but it only costs $60 to fix, and man was I happy when I could play Sonic CD again. Now my SNES seems like it's in its last days. I've had the system since year 1, and now it has serious issues starting up games. It played just fine a few years ago, and now it's on life support. I don't want to chunk it. Maybe I could get it repaired, I dunno.

Mine would have to be my ps2...It was a launch one. The problem was after about 6 years or so it stopped reading the blue discs (if you have a ps2 you know what I am talking about) and then very shortly after it stopped reading anything I put in it. very sad but with the way Sony is bringing out HD classics hopefully they will make a Jak trilogy for the ps3

PS2 for me.

Had an original fat one that I purchased really cheap used, there weren't even any screws in it to hold the casing together lol but it worked. It died on me about 3 months ago so I got a slim, which now freezes when I play games on it. I have no luck with PS2s :/

I wasn't a fan of Ratchet...I think I said that in Pete's last Live Stream. But if not I had a thing in my mind when I was a kid that Jak series was better than Ratchet and I had a friend that was vice versa with him liking Ratchet more than Jak so we had little fights about how each one was better then the other. But I finally got the first Ratchet game that was released on PS3 and I love it. So yeah a HD Classics of Ratchet would be cool

So have I! But I flashed mine so I could play pirated games (because I was a naughty, naughty boy). I bought an xbox for 25 euros. With the RROD. I fixed it and it lasted 9 months. Best....25 bucks....EVER!. The others died one the e74 one to RROD.

If you dont mind me asking, why is that sad?

I dont have it and probably wont for a good while, but i really want to see i do well. It's a really impressive piece of kit and has untold possibilities. My only concern is with game developers, i dont want to see this add on being shot in the foot just because most developers cant make anything that really uses its strengths. Im thinking of the mega CD here, great machine, useless developers.

That sucks about the 360, not bad innings for a day one console though. At least they are pretty damn cheap now.

My entire collection burnt up in an apartment complex fire!
What a downer. It's been a while now though and I have lost some of my bitterness.

That was a bad day though. To the ones we've lost! Cheers.

Read through a bunch of the posts. I feel a bit better, reading through a couple of you that lost your PS2s in some way, I realized that it would be a lot more of a downer if I lost my original PS2, which is not only my favorite system, but also the one I played all the way through my teen years. Although, I do have a backup PS2, and my older one is running perfectly, whereas the Xbox showed signs.

@ Bardabar : If I hadn't already gotten the new Xbox, I probably would try to fix the older one. I might try to fix the older one to sell, but I'm not sure how much I will get for it as it's the model without the HDMI plug. I have the latest Wireless Adapter, however, that I can salvage and sell sense the Slim has a built in one.

@ Browland1 : Yeah, I saw started seeing signs when graphical errors popped up in Fable 2 and 3, then Just Cause 2 started skipping bad with a new disk, Halo Reach hiccuped a lot in some places, and then after playing Mass Effect for about an hour or so, it went batshit, and I scurried to get the game out for fear of my favorite game somehow being damaged. As for the PS2, I feel ya man, mostly because Ico and Rez are two of my favorite games for the PS2.

@ Msaumos : You probably got the most sympathy out of me, the entire collection and your apartment possessions as a whole? Damn man.

It's sad because the launch is terrible. Worse than the Wii's and that was not great besides Zelda and some other things. I wouldn't care if it had good games. When it does, maybe I'll support it. ;)

My biggest loss was my PS/2 fat. I was able to fix it. If that ever happened where my fat PS/2 died again I would buy another fat one off of eBay or where ever I could find, since I would want to keep using my HDD.

My other big loss was my TI99/4a going down...fortunately they are cheap enough to replace.
