New Laptop Fan Problems

When I start up my laptop, the fan goes into full blast, and sometimes, doesn't turn off until I put my laptop into sleep mode, then wake it back up. After that, it turns on with a lighter flow, but keeps turning on for about a minute, then off for a minute, then repeats the whole time it's running. I updated the BIOS and that didn't help. Any ideas on why it's doing this and how I could stop it while also having it run only when it is really needed?

I had a similar problem with my laptop about a year ago. I updated the BIOS on mine as well, but that didn't help. Mine got so overheated it would shut itself off after about 20 minutes of being on. So I ended up taking it apart to find tons of built up dust making the fan work twice as hard. After it was cleaned, it never shut off anymore and was much quieter. This might sound weird, but every few months or so I take the vacuum cleaner and clean around the vents so it won't get clogged like before......that seems to do the trick and thought this might help you out too. Goodluck!

Check your power settings in control panel if using Windows.

I'd refrain from using a vacuum cleaner.

How new is new? < 3 months?

Your only supposed to use a vaccum to clean your keyboard

There shouldn't be a problem vacuuming the vents on the outside of the case with a battery powered vacuum cleaner.

Sega Does What Nintendon't

If it is new I would return the PC or at least have them service it.

It could be a setting in the bios that's set to run the fan at full speed that windows overrides when going into sleep mode.

If its a AMD laptop then you might want to check the Cool'n'Quiet settings in the bios. If its a Intel PC check the Speedstep settings. Every motherboard is going to be different so poke around for power / fan setting.
