Have you ever wished...; A Neighborhood that Dreams are made of

Have you ever wished that in some unforeseen way you lived in a neighborhood or house, or atleast a city with some of your buddies online (from YouTubers to chat friends to forum friends) regardless of age? Because I always find myself wishing that I could meet up with/hang out with a YouTuber and then I realize that I am 14 and some of the people I am thinking about are in their 20's, so that would never happen because they would be a little weird, plus being roommates with any of them is probably illegal on their parts (haha). That's why I wish I was atleast 7 years older because I know hanging out with some of the older online friends I've met will never even be close to a reality until then. I mean, once I am like twenty some of them might still be in their twenties or early thirties so that arrangement would be more feasible, but still; it is very unlikely we will still be in the same community by then, but I'm hoping for the best. Anyone else think of anything like this even without the age problem (just wanting to hang out with an awesome online friend you know that may be out of reach or living with them)? Because their are a lot of people online and in this forum that seem much nicer and cooler to hang out with than some of the people I know in real life.

Ds Games!

I think because of the internet, people with similar interests find each other way easier than they do in real life, so you may have people around you that enjoy gaming, but maybe not to the extent to get online and look for a forum. It always seems like everyone with your similar interests are far away because the internet brings so many people together. O and don't ever wish to be 7 years older, you'll be there before you know it, so don't rush it.

Thats an interseting thought and that would be awesome, hanging out with youtube people, online friends.
But as you said age restriction and law would be another problem but if all of that was gone it would be a very interesting theroy.

I've never met anyone from PGRF in person, but I've met other online buddies from other forms (such as last.fm) and it's been a mixed experience. Some are awesome people and we've become good friends, while other experiences were awkward and ultimately we didn't gel. People are often different in person than they are online, so being friends online doesn't guarantee you'll get along in real life.

As for the age difference, that's the reality of gaming and online forums in general. I converse with a lot of people on PGRF who are significantly younger than I am, which is not a problem since we're talking about games and gaming-related topics and age is irrelevant. Meeting in person is less likely for obvious reasons, but that doesn't mean you can't enjoy the time spent chatting online.

I think KingJames88 nailed it with his post.

It is pretty easy to find like-minded people on the internet, but online you just don't get the full experience. I highly doubt too many of us lie in out posts, but I'm sure the vast majority of us aren't direct representations of our posts. You have all the time in the world to strategize a great post that explains exactly how you feel about a subject; something very difficult to do in real life. Of course all of the ideals I express in my posts are true to how I think, but I'll talk differently and about different things with friends in person simply because it's more confortable. I'm sure a lot of us are also more polite online than in real life, simply because, online, you're really talking to the whole world rather than a group of people/one person.

I'm not completely knocking the idea though, I do think it would be very interesting to meet PGRF people in the real world. It's a different side of a person, and I'd be interested in seeing it. And, don't forget, there's always Skype!

I love this forum and I've made tons of friends here: My current set-up of real life friends and online friends keeps me content.

Haha yeah I totally agree, but that was not necessarily the point I was trying to get across. I think I worded it pretty poorly, but it's pretty hard to explain; almost like I would want them to be my age so we could hang out, not so much that I want to skip seven years of my life.

Yeah, now that I think about it, I can imagine it could be akward at times because like Matt said, we aren't quite as smooth in real life as we are online.

And yeah, I definitely appreciate and enjoy every second I chat and discuss with people online. I have tons of awesome friends online, but it is almost as if I feel like I want proof of their existence, as to tell others that "these guys are my friends, too," you know? I don't know if anyone else has ever felt this way, but I certainly have.

I definitely agree with you on not being direct representatives of our online selves. A lot of us definitely talk in a much more intelligent way than we probably do in real life, if you know what I mean. We might be pretty smart in real life as well, but I mean we are definitely much more casual in real life; online, sometimes we feel like we need to prove ourselves because the internet doesn't really know you as well as they might in real life. Though oddly enough, I feel as though a lot of my online friends know me better than some of my real life friends, or acquaintances in school because I am pretty sure most of my school isn't even aware gaming is such a large hobby of mine and I am probably the biggest gamer in our entire school, out of the select very few so there is not as much people I can really relate to locally versus globally, which is probably part of the reason I feel the way that I do in the topics discussed in this thread.

Strangely enough, I haven't used Skype for months because barely any of my friends even use it in real life, let alone online. Though, I really haven't been trying to find people online that have it because I honestly sort of forgot about it, but I'll definitely have to do that some more.

Anyone up for it?
