Being Given a Collection; Not sure what to do, I'm a bit overwhelmed

My brother showed up today and left his PS1 collection near my computer. Later that night he approached me and said, "You can have everything or give me money for what it's worth, I don't care, I don't want them anymore." He was a major collector in High School but I think he grew out of it during college. He collected major rarities such as Team Buddies for the PS1, Lunar 1 & 2 perfect in box, and other major titles.

I think he also plans on giving me his ENTIRE collection, not just PS1. I'm actually really sad as this is what we grew up on.

I don't know what to do :/ If I keep them I'm not giving him any money and he can have them back if he ever chooses to want them back. If I sell them then I plan on giving him as much money as I can out of them. AH, i'm overwhelmed :peachcry:

I say hold on to them since they're from your brother for one, and since you wouldn't get what they're worth anyway if you sold them. Unless you really really need some quick cash, I don't think it's worth it to sell them.

Well he just graduated college and doesn't have a job so I'm really thinking he's looking for money. I'm pretty decent at selling online so that's one reason why I think he approached me but still was not expecting it at all. Not sure if I was emotionally ready to handle him approaching me with this, that's all.

I'd personally keep the games and off him some money to both help him and take ownership of the games. If the collection is as good as you've said, the value will only go up, so I agree that selling them now wouldn't yield the best return. Unless you're flat broke, hang onto them.

I would keep the collection and if he really needs cash try to help him out in another way if possible. I sold most of my PS1 collection because I thought I was "tired" of gaming and still to this day I regret it. It will almost always cost you more to replace the collection later down the road if you/he wants to get back into gaming.

I would consider it a subcollection and organized separately from the other games. That way it'll be easier to give them back to him in case he regrets it later and wants them back. That, or keeping a written/typed list of the games so you'll remember later which ones were his. Then again, he really might not care at all about them anymore and truly want to get rid of them forever; in which case, you're in luck.

I've decided to respect his decision. He's not getting rid of everything, just what he feels isn't important to him. Everything he handed me, which wasn't too much of actually good games, I've decided to go ahead and sell. He did give me those PS1 titles that I mentioned and a mix of every other system that he didn't care for anymore. I'm keeping some of them as well, which I told him and he was cool with it. I'm planning on getting $1,000+ out of what he gave me and giving him as much as I can out of it. Shipping 200+ games out is gonna be awful :/

Each to their own, I guess. Just be sure to sell them for a good price, give it time to find a buyer who will give you a good price and don't let anyone lowball you for the games.
