So here's my situation. Today I went looking at trucks and I found 2 possibilities for me to get. The first one is a black, Sport Edition Ford Ranger for $13,800, automatic, 2 door (2 little seats in the back, not a full 4 door truck but can seat 4 people). My other option is a Silver Mazda 3000, automatic, with the same 4 seating as the Ford Ranger, for $11,800. I have $9000 at the moment and will be taking out a loan, I need it payed off in 24 months. Here's my dilemma. If I choose the Ford Ranger I will need a $7500 loan and will be paying aprox. $350 a month for 24 months. The Mazda 3000 will cost me aprox. $250 a month for 24 months ($5000 loan). If I work 3 days a week I can make between $600-700 a month. If I get the Ranger I will be left around $100-$200 extra a month. If I get the Mazda 3000 I will be left with around $200-$300 per month. I am thinking about getting the Ford Ranger because I think I can average working 18 hours a week, but I don't want to be screwed and not be given enough shifts at my job (work in a kitchen as a line cook, not guaranteed hours). If I get the Mazda 3000 I will easily be able to make the payments with no worries about how many hours I work because I will only need to work about 10 hours a week, which I get about 12 hours on a slow week. I am in grade 11 so in 2 years from now I will be finishing my first semester at college, and if I go to the college I want to I will not be able to work, So I will need to save up an extra $2000 if I buy the Ranger to pay it off while I'm away at school and I will need about $1300 to pay off the Mazda 3000. Please help me decide, I'm going tomorrow to make an offer on one of the trucks and I would love some input. |

If your not guaranteed to get the hours you will need to pay for the Ford then I would go with the Mazda just to be safe. Isn't the Mazda 3000 and the Ford Ranger more or less the same truck? |

Ya they are essentially the same truck because they are made by the same manufacturer, the ford is just in overall better shape and some extra features, less KM as well. |

It would be smart to go with the Mazda in your situation. I'm curious to know what the mileage is on these cars. How many miles are on them? See if you would be driving long distances or short. Will you be commuting for college or driving a lot out of state? Look at these factors and then make your final decision. |
