I might not be the best person to answer this question that I am asking. I am not from the right zeitgeist to have been blessed to play the tough as nails NES games, although I did get very far in Battletoads as a child with my brother, yet I was never really at the age to sit down and put all my mind power into games that kicked you around the place. I played Contra but never finished it. As I grew older I yet again never played any "hard games", mainly for the genre of games I play such as RPG's which are not really hard because if you ever get stuck, just level grind. I am not a SHMUPS man myself, and have yet to try Ikaruga or the other crazy ass bullet fests that come with the genre. If I had to pick the hardest game which I have finished it would have to be Flower,Sun and Rain. So tell me guys, even after all my rambling, what is the Hardest game you have finished, and maybe I might get some recommendations to try out and hopefully feel accomplished after finishing the game which is not afraid to make you cry. |

I can't judge off the NES games I beat when I was a kid because I was only around 4 or 5 or maybe 6, so I can't say which were difficult and which were hard cause I was a kid. In recent game playing, as in the past 5 years or so, I'd have to go with Etrian Odyssey, because I was never able to finish Shiren the Wanderer. |

It would be a toss up between Ninjas Gaiden II and the first Castlevania, both of which are brutally hard and painfully unforgiving. As a kid, I was able to dedicate enough time to them to master the levels and learn every candle, power-up and enemy placement by heart. Today, I don't think I would survive nearly as long. |

I think the last game I beat was Uncharted 2, but that really wasn't that hard. I beat Double Dragon II for the NES on Supreme Master without using any cheats like eight years ago or something. That was a pretty difficult game honestly. There were a lot of like death traps in that game where you could really blow through your lives you were trying to save up that you needed for the end game. But I practiced at it and got really good. Just like with Heavy Barrel. Those games were made in such a way that you could only achieve at them with practice and memorization. That's all that really comes to my mind right now. |

I don't know if this counts... since it's an online game. But I think i'd have to go with the campains in Left for Dead 2 on expert difficulty... It took many hours of practice before I was able to beat them. |

I would have to say one of the hardest games I ever finished is definitely a Castlevania game, but its actually not the original Castlevania. Castlevania: Order of Ecclesia Despite how hard this game is, it had a difficulty that was a welcome addition to a Castlevania game. I found the other castlevania DS games way too easy. This one took a lot of time to get use to, because you couldn't really rush through the game or any of the bosses or else you were going to die pretty quick. One of the things that made the game even harder was trying to complete it. In order to get medals to fill out your item list you had to defeat each of the bosses in the game even Dracula without getting hit. Once you defeated that boss without getting hit you would get the specified medal for that boss. Definitely very hard and very annoying to do. |
