So a few months ago I went to a friendly arcade tourney at Funspot and met alot of cool people. As we were playing Donkey Kong, I got talking to a guy and he could see I was very passionate for DK. DK and King of Kong is the reason I really got back into arcades again, it got ALOT of people into arcades again! Long story short, he had a Nintendo cab that was a DK Jr that was converted to VS Mario Bros he said he'd sell me. He gave me a good deal with a DK bezel to start my very own DK restoration.

I did ALOT of Sanding and bondo to fix broke down corners, ugly screw holes, and the front where it was the roughest looking. The orange material was laminate that I left on. It would be more hassle to remove it.

Now it is ready for PAINT. I applied 3 coats of primer and did some light sanding. The 3 coats did hide alot of the minor flaws.
This was primer coat #1

This was after 3 coats and some sanding

NOW TIME FOR SOME BLUE!!!! I had some code for the DK blue I got at Lowes. There is no really "perfect" DK blue, but its pretty close. The pictures do make it look a little darker than it really is.

After a 2nd coat, it looked great. So i removed all the tape and put the bezel on to see how shes gonna look!

TO BE CONTINUED!! I still have all the black stuff to paint plus get my Marquee, control panel, and DK PCB!

These aren't the droids we're looking for.

Man, I wish I had room for an arcade cab in my house; I'd get one (or more....) in a heartbeat!

It's looking great! Keep us updated!

Lookin' good, Tim. Nintendo cabs look great, especially when restored to an original look. I'm still working on a conversion myself, but finding cheap monitor boards is a hassle.

I haven't tested the monitor yet. I've been told it works fine. Fingers crossed!!

Monitors tend to work fine till you move them. Then they break. Monitors are jerks.

Are you just going to have it be a straight-up Donkey Kong cabinet, or are you going to have it switchable between other games, like DK2 or Crazy Kong? I know a lot of people like to do that with DK cabs.

I would really like to have a D2K/High Score save kit too.

Crazy Kong is awesome. I wouldn't mind making a separate Crazy Kong cab.

More progress on the cab. I got all the black stuff painted and got to coin door painted. My t-molding came in today too, so I threw that on and it looks really sweet! Can't wait to get this baby going!!!

Looking good. You've made more progress in the last 3 days with your DK machine than I've made with either of my machines in a year.

The worst part is getting started, because that's the first point of no return. Thanks for the inspiration, I think I'll pull my machines back out and work on them a bit.

I posted this topic almost a year and a half ago. I've done the control boards so far, but not much else. I'll try to get some pictures this week.

Welcome To Warp Zone!

I saw your video on your vlog channel. You should definitely get some wire snippers (not a stripper/cutter). They proved great leverage for cutting notches in your T-Molding without the danger of a razor blade.
