It varies. A lot of times I still just listen to the music that is on during the game and sfx. If I'm playing like Madden though I'll play whatever I see in my yotube favorites whether that even just be older videogame music or random bands like Pennywise, Sunny Day Real Estate, Mineral, Castevet or ASC....
Slowbeef: Hold on it's the evil wizard who's spinning and striking a pose. And also giant swords, why the hell not.

Most of the time I just listen to the music that is in the game....

But if I am in a long dungeon in an MMORPG I usually put on some of my own tunes.

i actually do listen quite often music while playing (especially if ive already beaten the game once) but i dont have any special songs i listen to whilst playing a game, i just listen to what i feel like at the moment. its quite funny now that i think about it :P sometimes when i play cod i might listen something like system of a down and sometimes something more like classical music XD it really depends what i feel like listening to, so it isnt pre-defined by the type of game i play.

It really depends on the type of game I'm playing. If it's a game that's dialogue-heavy or requires my full attention, I won't have any music playing as I need to be able to hear what's being said. If it's a racing game or a retro title that I know well, I'll pop in an album and just enjoy the mix of gaming and music. I often do this when I'm listening to new albums, or I'll listen to an old favorite like The Beatles, Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin or Rush.

I don't listen to music with most games I'm playing and if I'm playing something like Black Ops then I'll normally be talking to my friends to I don't need music. If I'm playing alone though I like a whole range of stuff, especially rock.

9/10 I'll listen to the games soundtrack, as usually it helps convey the direction the game is supposed to be going in. Playing SotC while rocking out to "Between the Buried and Me" just wouldn't cut it.

If it's a repetative game, or the OST sucks, I'll either watch something, or have my playlist on shuffle. Which usually involves the Nier, Fallout and Deadly Premonition soundtracks.

It depends on the type of game but some games already have good soundtracks. No-nonsense action games require high tempo songs in the background to get you motivated.
Project Gotham Racing 3 had Helicopter by Bloc Party which worked very well.

Like every one else on this post, it just depends on what kind of game I happen to be playing. Most of the time im just listening to the OST and SFX, but every now and then, I will listen to my favorite bands.

Three Days Grace-

Linkin Park-

Shinedown-

Hollywood Undead-

Papa Roach-

I Like Games.

The only time I listen to music when playing a game is when the game I am playing has no music or repetitive music that gets boring, such as starcraft 2. I usually just listen to different game music or listen to a podcast.

Disturbed, Johnny Cash, Metallica, Damn I'll listen to anything (As long as it ain't that modern day computer only crap)! However if it's a legendary game soundtrack like Metal Gear Solid or Crazy Taxi original (The Offspring) I would listen to the game because the music is just awesome.

depends on what I'm playing. If I'm playing anything violent or if i'm playing a racing game i'll listen to Slipknot, Metallica, any heavy metal, the Super Smash Bros. Brawl Soundtrack, any other video game soundtrack, or anything Psychopathic (such as Insane Clown Posse, Boondox, Blaze Ya Dead Homie, Twiztid, Dark Lotus, ABK etc.)

RPG's are usually the only games I listen to the soundtrack. Never listen to FPS soundtracks... The music created is either to boring or trying to be to epic for me to want to listen to it. Music must also be extremely fast and intricate.

Only really listen to music when playing FIFA. Then it's anything fast-paced like Prodigy, Iron Maiden etc.

I guess I'm of the same opinion of some people. I don't usually burden myself with other outside sources of music. Usually the game's soundtrack is good enough for me.

However I do remember, playing in the arcade while wearing a discman and headphones playing various arcade games. The problem was the sound on some of the arcade games were so low you couldn't hear them with surrounding noise. I remember playing games at the arcade while listening to a lot of dance mix cd's and stuff along those lines.
