Sweet to hear there is an another artist is here. I pretty much work on comics (and I am as well far from perfect on drawing.) Here's something from last weekish (excuse me for the size, but it is a comic after all):

I'm in a Fine Art class in my High School where I've done some work that I wouldn't mind showing. Won't be as cool as what you guys are showing but shouldn't be too bad. From High School I have a Facial Portrait (pencil, from a reference), a Parrot Drawing (Pencil, from a reference), and lots of random sketches. There's also some stuff from middle school I may show. Pics will come soon enough.

I'm an artist, and I'm not half bad, but I usually find it hard to want to sit down and make a good piece or art... I really want to try though... |

I'm an artist and graphic designer. I currently work on a comic that a friend and myself created. Feel free to check it out, it's called Side Quest. I also work with stencils, markers, inks and spray paint on some fine art projects. I do a lot of illustration work and the art for the comic is created in a traditional manner. I draw the boards with pencils and then ink and marker in all the black areas. Then I scan the finished board into the computer and use PhotoShop for all the colors and lettering. I love that now a days art can be so user created. My studio is disjointed at the moment and it's insane to me that I can put the work out that I do from my house. The comic, Side Quest, has been rolling for over a year now and it's definitely humble beginnings. The sites a bit clunky but we've got some major and amazing changes coming down soon. It seems like there some good artist on this forum. Keep up the good work, NumberedEyes. You should pick the pencils back up, SwitchStyles. Edited by Travis, Jan 18 2011, 03:12 AM.

So, the answer to the threads title is a solid 'no'? ;P In my opinion, a majority of anime / manga isn't art, most of it incredibly lazy and really cheap / tacky. Scribbling out some animes doesn't make you an artist, it just makes you a dude that likes scribbling out animes. Scribbling out animes then getting a PC to do the rest makes you an even moar lazy animes dude. Also Travis, it's hideously obvious you're inspired by CAD. Stop it. Tim Buckley is a complete and utter hack, and web comics shouldn't be comprised of 75% speech bubbles. That dude is incredibly lucky to be where he is, and emulating him will only set you back. It's obvious you have talent, keep at it! |

Hey Andsy thanks for the "talent" compliment. I definitly have to disagree with the emulation of Tim Buckley comment though. We write mostly big comics because that's the way we write. No outside influence or inspiration added. I don't want to comment on the merit of Tim Buckley's work but I would agree with you that he's lucky. He's lucky because he gets paid to create art every day and as an artist that's is the luckiest you can get. Other than that I don't know the guy and don't care. We strive to distance our selves from our predecessors not out of spit but out of love. The world already has a PVP, PA and a CAD there is no need for sequels. But in the same token if similarities arise they are out coincidence not out of copying. If anything our work is very biographical and if any influence is added it's from Harvey Pekar. Back in June Penny Arcade and CAD did comics about the Kinect and we did a comic with full frontal male nudity. We may be similar but we're not the same. I hope you'll keep reading, Andsy, and you'll see more how we deviate from CAD. Thanks for the love, Golden_Age_Gamer. Edited by Travis, Jan 18 2011, 08:17 PM.

I do some art myself, but mine is physical media and not on the comp so I'll get some pics of some pieces that I have stored at my parents house and post them up. Pete showed some of his video game art in an earlier vid I'd like to see more of his as well as more of you guys. @Travis I like the comic keep up the good work and hopefully if will take off you do have the talent |
