Peer opinions are far better than a site thrown into the aggregate that is metacritic. I'll usually check out some opinion/glimpse/first reaction type videos from people on YouTube who resonate with me in terms of taste. |

I read reviews on IGN as a basline, but I usually take the player/reader reviews more to heart. I feel the opinions expressed are far more pure. I am also lucky enough to have two friends that know my gaming taste pretty well (and I their own), so we're pretty good at recommending games to one another. I think I have only taken one critic review to heart and that was for the new Splatterhouse...dodged a bullet there lol. |

In my case, I use reviews not to get a rating, but to see game play and see how someone interpreted the overall game. Sometimes it can destroy my thoughts of purchasing a game, or make those thoughts even more prominent. |
