It can be quite serious. When I was 14, I was sent multiple death threats from kids in my school simply because of the way I dressed. Cops got involved, people were arrested, shit got ugly, and it was stressful on my part. I can completely understand why people who are weaker and can't deal with that type of thing well would go so far as to harm or kill themselves. Cyber bullying is a real problem, so please don't make it sound like it's as simple as closing the window. It carries over into real life as well, not just the internet. |

Wow, shows how heartless some people can be. Most cowardous bullies turn to cyberbullying, if you know what I mean. Most of the time, they hide behind their computer screens, with the holy power that is being anonymous. But, it is ridiculous when you see how far people take it some time. I mean, a few friendly insults here and there never hurts anyone but when you start sending death threats is when you have a serious problem on your hand. And that is to what I say: ... Really? ah cyber bullying... the one factor of trolling.. i for one haven't been cyber bullied or anything nor did it to anyone else. but i have seen some serious shit about it. in my school there are papers up saying "cyber bullying is against the law" or "don't cyber bully". i have seen news about some teens getting suicidal thoughts just of it. in my head i go "wow... why would some people go and just ruin someones life?" and then i see in reality i go "man... this is some serious shit right here..." like pokemonzrpg said its only a bunch of cowards behind a screen talking crap just to make themselves feel good. and remaining anonymous just so they can say anything to you wont last that long before the police find out. i had a teacher that was from the computer lab in my school and she said she dealt with many cyberbullying in the past and that some got busted and some gave it up and started fresh. the victims of cyber bullying should stay strong and not give in to the statements that they say and try to ignore it. thats just my 2 cents about it

Not everyone's as level headed as you. And if someone's bullying you online and you know them and their friends in real life, it can be more devastating. |

Ugh you don't have any right to joke around when it comes to cyber bullying. Just a year a go my best friend's mom was killed in a horrible car crash and his dad suffered major brain damage which caused him to become paralyzed from the waist up. So he withdrew from school for a bit and when he came back he had gained a few pounds from all the stress. A bunch of kids started sending him messages on facebook saying he was fat, gay, cry baby, etc. So with the stress of him moms death and kids making fun of him I guess he just couldn't take it. He hung himself and he was just 13. What made it worse is that one of the kids managed to hack his facebook profile and started to troll and random peoples profile spamming the message im fat and posting links to porn. That kid got sent to juvie for a small amount of time. So before you call people who commit suicide over sensitive think of the circumstances. Edited by A Tainted Man, Jan 27 2011, 11:26 PM.

Cyberbullying is serious. Bullying of any kind is not cool. You make it seem like it can be solved with one click of a button. If you get bombarded with insult and hate on a daily basis, you would be mentally weak. And it would push you to your limits.

Bullies are absolute cowards. Cyber bullying is extra cowardly. It's a shame that kids feel it gets too much and have to hurt themselves over it. If they only hang on for a few more years, they'll soon find out their bullies work at McDonalds Its a great feeling

I'm not really sure about this. I've never really cared too much what someone had to say about me, and I'm not sure why I should. I still gotta get up and go to work, I still get to come home and play ds. I've always been pretty laid back, maybe I'm just not a target because of my attitude, my outlook on things, or because I just really don't care what someone has to say about me. No chance I'm going to hurt myself over what someone less than me has to say about me though, even though I don't really remember anyone ever making fun of me about anything. How can you make fun of the ds king anyway? |

Hasn't ever happened to me personally but it seems like a simple solution if you get hate mail from strangers online but it can be a much more serious from people you may know at school or college or some club. It leads to stress and push them over the edge and result in a sad ending. The internet is another method to bully others just when you thought staying at home was safe. Your saying that people shouldn't go online well that means the bullies have an influence over you and stoping you from doing things. Don't let them win. How can you not take it seriously? From strangers, yes but if you're constantly getting abuse from someone you know take action immediately. Bullies are cowards with their own issues and think that if they can make someone feel as small as they do they are stronger. |

This reminds me of those 2 kids that shoot up Columbine. those 2 were about to graduated within 2 months where they could of moved on with life and forgot about every prick at that school. but instead of doing that, they decided to go crazy and bust up the school. |

Cyberbullying is a very serious subject, and shouldn't be taken lightly. In most cases it extends beyond the internet and into their everyday lives, especially school. Bullies are cowardly scum, and I'm glad there are people making sure they feel retribution for their acts, especially in these sorts of extreme cases. |

Calling the police = fail People should toughen up. It's not hard to CLICK X and not go to that site anymore. if it's a problem at school you curve stomp the bullies face. It's all about not taking shit. I agree with the maker of this. |

What I find more shocking is the absolute ignorance some people have to life, to comment on people's decisions on choosing to kill themselves is ignorant and pretty insensitive. Not everyone is the same mentally each person has different breaking points, and for the person talking about curb stomping? What are you 12? |

I agree if its just some idiot with nothing better to do than watch random videos on youtube and talk trash in the comments. Its a different story if its someone you know. I remember someone from my school was mad at his little sister and decided to take it out on me on youtube. It really hurts especially if it is somebody you thought was your friend. P.S: We did not call the police but he did get in serious trouble with his mom. I kinda felt bad for him in the end

I guess you have to deal with it, like you have with everything. Someone that kills himself because of bullying is really bad, someone killing himself for cyber-bullying by somebody they don't even know who the fuck he is, is just crazy in my opinion. But i have to say that i would NEVER be able to call the cops or something like that. Same i don't like telling parents what happens, it's just my stuff, and I want to deal with it, not being a kid anymore. No offense to anybody, but i would just feel like a sucker if i was going everything to my mom and call the cops. Because i'm not really strong or something, i guess the only way to deal with bullies is to act like "i don't fucking care what you think about me". Edited by Overtimee, Jan 28 2011, 06:14 PM.

I remember when cyber-bullying happened to me. People were cussing and cursing at me on youtube. I showed some people my original youtube account (which I deleted, and this was years ago) and soon, everyone in the school saw my stupid videos. I was being laughed at and taunted for two years. People spread rumors about me. Was not a good time. After that, it died down, but to this day, people are still mentioning it to me. I admit, I made some stupid youtube videos (by stupid, and mean childish and young) but still, having rumors spread about you, well, not a very good experience. Cyber-bullying is really a scary thing. That's why I always try to be careful on the internet. The internet is not the place to be mocking others. Remember, you never know who could really be behind that computer screen. |

You do know how serious of an issue this can be, right? People have been hurt really badly due to this kind of bullying. People have said, many bad things, that have caused people to go into this type of pain, and commit suicide, just to get it all over with. This is a very serious topic, and I get PISSED, whenever someone, act as if it's not serious, and you can just delete your account and never go on again, because this stuff carries into real life as well, and spreads to other people, it doesn't just stay on the internet. |

People underestimate the impact of cyberbullying because the stigma is that it's not violent and it can be avoided by turning off the computer. Wrong. We live in an age where our entire lives are online and this is especially true for teenagers. Bullying can include spreading rumors, provoking conflicts and making threats that can be carried out in real life. I never had to deal with this, fortunately, since I was in school at a time when the internet was relatively new, but it's a big problem today. Personally, I blame the parents of the kids doing the bullying and the parents of the victim who don't do anything about it. Kids today are miles ahead of their parents in terms of computer literacy, which is why they need to get educated and ensure that the internet they provide to their kids is being used responsibly. If I was a parent and I found out my kids were using the internet I pay for to bully others or troll the internet, they wouldn't be on the internet...they would be grounded and severely punished. Internet is a privilege, not a right, and parents need to get smart and set these boundaries. |
