Better yet, if your one of those being picked on that's good at video games, pick yourself up a copy of super street fighter 4 and get good at it. The bully won't be able to beat you at the game and everyone will be impressed, because that's a game that's widely accepted as being "cool".
Ninjas aren't cool for most people, they're actually quite lame.

Anyways, i have to say i kinda agree with Golden Age Gamer. Most people won't stop until you show them you got at least a little bit of balls. That may seem stupid, being violent, but telling your parents (or even worse the police), would just make it double as bad as it was.

Who said anything about ninjas? I'm not talking about Guy and Ibuki, I'm talking Balrog, Zangief, Dudley, Gouken, Akuma, Fei Long, Bison and so on. Who has a problem with ninjas by the way?

Nah he was completely serious... SSF4 is actually pretty cool where I live... However the games that got really cool around my school were of course COD4-BlackOps. Even though I was prolly the best at it at my school.

This isn't considered cyber bullying but its similar.
In my first year of high school I remember a kid that helped out in my Biology class that was a Senior at the time. He was a real intelligent kid but people for some reason picked on him. I remember it was the last hour before school got out and as the bell rang I said have a good weekend man. He said thanks you too. So the weekend went by and returned to school Monday morning. It was a rainy day. I was in my second hour class when the principal came on the intercom and reported that we had lost a student over the weekend. It was the kid that helped out in my Biology class. He drove his car at 80 mph into a light pole right by the school which is 2 minutes from my house. It was said that he left a note on his bed with a list of people that picked on him but I'm not positive about that. Very sad.

I was never picked on in High School but I was always talking to the kids who got picked on and asked them how they were doing and stuff like that. I was told by my family that nobody is better then the next person and I still fallow that and always will.

I think if everyone would just look around once and a while and take a good long look at whats going on some of these horrible incidents can be avoided and handled. Just saying hi to someone can make them feel good about themselves and make there day. I think a lot of people these days are just worried about themselves and don't give two shits about someone who may need some help.

Bullying is a serious business...
When people commit suicide it's usually never just one incident of terror. It's more likely years and years of negative reinforcement.
Unless you fully understand and research the elements involved in this case, you can't make a relevant assumption, or state an opinion concerning how they "can be so damn weak".

Having said this however, I feel that our current generation is VERY wimpy. You wanna' see bullying? Try being your High-School's only Goth-kid, or try going to elementary school in rural Germany =P

at first i thought the first post was nothing more then ignorant garbage by somebody who has never experienced bullying from that end of the table... but then i thought for a second....

really though, what more can you do besides click the X at the corner? this is supposing you dont know who the bully is. What can you really do? block and delete, ignore, quit the website in question...

I think that is the problem with the cyber variant of bullying. you cant easily deal with it because either you dont know who is doing it... you cant get to where the bully is due to vast distance... or what ever.

At least in real life you have more options...

As for suicide, judging people who have done that, or who have tried is another story altogether. You cant judge people who have done that because they are not of sane mind. It isn't their fault.

You guys are missing the point.

Cyberbullying goes hand in hand with real life bullying. That's the whole point.

The bullies may be blocked by the victims, but that doesnt stop the bullies using their friends accounts, or roping in additional people.

Having a shit day at school, being bullied constantly, get home, parents are arguing / whatever, log on the PC and find out someone you thought was OK has turned against you due to the bullies... It all accumulates.

Feel really bad for these kids. I really do

That pretty much sums up my feelings on the matter as well. Many people who are bullied also have unstable home lives, so this sense of hopelessness and isolation really builds up and sadly it pushes some people down dark alleys. This can include poor performance in school, truancy, drug and alcohol abuse and, if extreme enough, suicide.

Cyberbullying is relatively new and still misunderstood by many people. For many people, their online world is a haven and an escape from the worries of real life, so for someone to invade that and continue the harassment is a serious invasion. Make light of it all you want, but it is a serious problem and I would venture that it's just as bad (or worse) than real life bullying. When I was a kid, any kind of confrontation ended on the playground, but nowadays it can invade your home and leave you feeling even more helpless and alone.

Part of me is thankful we didn't have internet when I was growing up. I had some issues with bullies during my elementary school years and I can only imagine how it would have been if they got to my online as well as at school.

I certainly have not, I understand the angle from the bullied kid perfectly well...

the part I dont know is... what can be done about a cyber bully? (supposing he/she doesn't know who the bully is)

Yeah there are some possible ways to find out who somebody is, but this is a kid we are talking about here...

I think parents are becoming more aware of the situation due to tv and the bad shit we keep hearing about on the news...

I honestly just wish that this thread and other ones about topics that are debatable such as drugs would just be closed down so we can talk about games. Honestly, I understand that it's the off topic section, but we can come up with some more reasonable subject than this. That's all I'm saying. These topics breed nothing more than idiots being idiots and smart people being degraded for having a fact-supported opinion.

That's all I'm saying.

No such thing as a perfect forum free of stupid comments and some thoughtless answers but this is probably the closest thing you can get to perfection at the moment. I don't think smart people are being degraded here really and luckily there are many sensible individuals in this forum.

I think you hit the nail on the head here.
Rather then one rude comment or e-mail, it's a compilation of things spread throughout the whole day...

I haven't been cyber bullied nor do I know someone that has been cyberbullied, but honestly, the people who choose to kill themselves over kids making fun or taunting them are just weak and very selfish human beings. You want to know the reason that I have never been bullied in high school? Because I stick up for myself and don't take shit from anyone, no matter who it is or how big they are, if they kick my ass (hasn't even been attempted) I can say I at least stuck up for myself. I was bullied back in elementary school through grade 7 and 8 by my former friend (we were friends at the time too). I was overweight and every day he would bring up my weight issues and make fun of me and he got some of his and MY other friends to join in. Eventually, I thought to myself that if I just stop taking shit from him, he'll leave me alone. So one day when he called me a fatass I told him off and stood up to him, and it worked. That day I learned that if you show some self-respect and don't take shit, you won't get bullied. Cyber bullying is the same way, people need to stick up for themselves, not take the easy way out and kill themselves, just proving that the bullies got the better of them. I know not everyone shares my opinion but it's what I've learned from personal experience.
