Have you ever participated in the launch of a new console or game? What kind of experience was it like? Would you do it again?

With the 3DS coming out soon, I can imagine that some people will be lining up for that device and waiting for a midnight launch. I'm sure that there are a few people here that will be out there for it's release to the public.

I know that personally I don't get super excited for any game that releases at midnight. I can't recall any game where I thought I needed to rush out and get a copy of it and had to line up with hundreds of other people. I always seem to just walk in and purchase the game(s) that mostly are unheard of so I'm not really aware of the hype surrounding famous titles like Halo or Call of Duty.

Any thoughts on this or experiences?

I've done one launch date for a console, the Wii.

I got burnt, bad. Really do not like the Wii, and it's put me off launch purchases forever more. I was going to get the 3DS, but Nintendo and resellers are being beyond greedy here, so I'll be passing on that.

Ds Games!

I have my 3ds coming in the mail so I won't be lining up, only because I don't trust Gamestop with how many pre orders they took, way too many without knowing how many units they will receive, just like with the Wii. The most recent game of memory that I went to a midnight release for was Brawl, I was at a friends house with a ton of people and we were all waiting for it to come out so I ran to Gamestop around 10 PM, the time they were going to open the doors, picked it up after about 15 minutes in line, and drove right back for a night of playing Brawl. I'd be waiting in line for the 3ds too, had it not been for my previous experience with the Wii shortages.

I don't do game console launches because I like to wait for the price to come down before I purchase a system. I stick to the midnight launches for big games like Call of Duty because I can go home and immediately play the game with all my friends.

Nope, ordered 3DS online, and it'll be my first launch system. I wouldn't be able to function the following day if I waited in line all night for it anyway, so it would do more harm than good.

I've worked Midnight release/launches for games when I worked at Gamestop. I think the best part of the night was getting to have Pizza with the customers. ;p It would of probably been better if I was working launches for games I actually play and like.

That's about it for launches for me. I've never been to midnight releases as a customer. I usually just wait till I'm heading in town to pick up games or consoles. I usually get both as presents though. I think the only launch console I've ever gotten was the PS3. I filled up one of the two employee's spots reserving it at Gamestop.

I like my sleep and being in a routine far too much to go get a game at midnight. Even if I were to get a game at midnight I'd no doubt be in my bed as soon as I got home.

I don't really buy any games on release anyway but I am buying the 3DS. I've got quite a big backlog of games to complete so it would be pretty pointless paying £40 for a game which by the time I get to play it is between £10 and £20.

I don't think I've ever bought a game system at launch, because either I didn't have the money or I lacked the interest. Console launches are great to experience a system at it's birth, but I find that the second or third generations are when I like to take the plunge. The first generations usually have bugs, design issues and are at a higher price point. The subsequent generations often have better features and are available for less money, so I don't mind waiting. I have never been more glad of this than with the Xbox 360, which I didn't up getting until the Elite models came out and I bypassed a lot of the RROD issues that plagued the Arcade and Pro models.
