Fox News slams Bulletstorm

It seems that Fox "News" (I use that term loosely) is becoming more of a whiny special interest group with each passing day. Now they're slamming the upcoming game Bulletstorm for violence and sexual innuendo, proving further that they think causing moral panic makes them somewhat credible.

I swear Fox News exists puring as a parody organisation and it's sole purpose is to entertain me. :$ :$ :$ FoxNews :$ :$ :$

And then I'm brought back to reality, and realise that some people are really that stupid, and it puts a downer on my day.

VSigma100: If I've learned anything on here it's that Andsy is a crazy bastard. LOL.

The did the same thing when Modern Warfare 2 came out, hosting one of the most embarrassing and shamelessly one-sided debates I've ever seen on television. The more controversial the title is, the better it seems to sell, so Fox News is certainly helping the gaming industry. Hey, infamy sells!

These aren't the droids we're looking for.

Lmao.

Unfortunately, both the left and the right have their own issues when it comes to video games, and both extremes want it regulated by the government. No matter what a game developer does, it's gonna step on someone's toes, and sure enough, they'll yell and whine as loud as they can about it.

"And with kids as young as 9 playing such games..." Here we touch on a huge part of this debate: Where are the parents? I have no sympathy for people who whine about kids playing games that are directed at a much older age group. If you don't want your kids playing Grand Theft Auto or Bulletstorm, then don't let them. You should know what your children are playing. Don't get embarassed when Carl, Jr. lets little Jimmy from across the street borrow the M-rated game BBB: Boobs, Bullets & Blood - Carl, Jr. either has the game because, A) you let him have it because you either feel he's responsible enough to play it or you don't care, or B) you aren't keeping a tab on what he's being exposed to.

Do we need to rethink the ESRB rating system? Make it less flashy with the letters, and just put age ranges on it? Personally, I don't think so, but some people make me wonder....

More on-topic: Oh well, think of it as free advertisement. I have nothing against blood and boobs in video games (personally, I think there should be MOAR), but some people do, and they can never settle with just not buying it; they'll make sure you know they don't agree with it.

LBBB: Boobs, Bullets & Blood
You don't mind if I borrow this name if I ever make a game do you?

On topic.
Quote:

The increase in rapes can be attributed in large part to the playing out of [sexual] scenes in video games,” she said.

Yes, all of the rapists these days are playing the latest games :ermm:

Lets just hope parents are responsible enough to not let their kids get their hands on M/18 rated games instead of blaming the developer.

I think it all boils down to parental responsibility coupled with properly teaching children about ethics and accountability. What happens in a video game, as in a movie or a TV show, is fictional and is not meant to reflect conduct that is acceptable in real life. Parents should get educated about what entertainment their children have available and make responsible decisions, rather than blaming others and expecting the government to do their job for them. Even if you stop your children from accessing violent media, chances are that they have friends who will provide them with access, so teaching them and giving them context is equally important.

This is why fox news is the best news source.... Woooot Go Fox News. They really know how to advertise for games... The must have been paid by the company that made bulletstorm... They are going for the same effect as dead space 2... Lol all jokes aside I agree with the previously mentioned fact that It is up to the parents to decide what there children should be allowed to Watch, Play, Or do.

They are such douche bags. You can see and hear way more hardcore stuff on any TV station. And I'm sick of people blaming video games for cimes like rape and murder.

Personally i agree with fox news

Because of me playing resident evil when i was 3 i became a maniac and started carrying a shotgun and herbs; I also developed a weird walking condition. After the rehab i thought i was safe untill i played grandtheft auto san andreas at 11, i took my moms car and drove straight into a train, beat up a hooker with a baseball bat, and grabbed a jetpack a mowed down civilians.

I think we should all listen to fox because videogames are a danger to our society :nessfall:

....anyone else picking up this game day one now [luigidance]

I am a 14 year-old gamer who enjoys playing M-rated games. In all of my local Games Stores, when I put an M-rated game on the shelf, the person checking me out will tell me I need my parent to purchase the game. My parent is there, they give them the OK because they're okay with me playing the game, and I purchase the game.

I proceed to go home and place the game in the appropriete console. I'll play as my character and press buttons to trigger imagery of murder, mature jokes, and sexual themes. If it's a good game, I enjoy myself; if it's a bad game, I don't enjoy myself. When I am done enjoying the game, I turn the game off, and I stop playing.

When I am done playing I do not proceed to murder anyone, rape anyone, or do anything inherantly violent.

Why isn't this proof enough that this article was written in a biased, ignorant mannor?

Because news stations do whatever it takes to get money. More people reading their articles/watching their show means more money for them. If they do ignorant stuff like this, they know that they'll appeal to ignorant parents that will eat all of this stuff up instead of doing their own research. It's one of the sad truths of life.

There's no need to point fingers at Republicans, there are plenty of Democrats that have the same view on video games. And I'm sure there is at least one left wing equivalent of Fox News.

Lol. What is funny is that people believe that Fox News and Right Wing media are the only ones that spin things how they want them. At least It is more obvious to tell the lies from the truth while watching Fox. Some Left wing news channels are much more clever in their Lies but they are still lies, just better told ones.

I will concede that yes there are left wingers that spin news their way as well thats just a natural fact of life.but to say the left spins stuff as much as the right is ludicrous IMO.

I put Fox News on the same level as I would any tabloid newspaper; worth nothing more than something to line a cat's litterbox. As matt456 has shown, violent video games does not a violent monster make. I think the problem is overblown because people who go off the deep end and kill people are usually messed up to begin with, well beyond what a video game could be held accountable for, but it's an easy excuse. When a child commits a crime, the parents look to media influences to explain (or excuse) this kind of behaviour, presumably because they don't want to admit that they have some accountability. Tabloid media outlets like Fox News pander to this demographic and it works.

It seems like Fox just adds views from "experts" they want to hear instead of listening to both sides of the argument. How can they put the question: "Is Bulletstorm the worst game in the world" as the title? it doesn't seem to make sense.

I figure If I watch each side of the News, both Left and Right, I will be able to discern what is true and what is not. There are very few if any news outlets that are truly Objective IMO. Some are more Obviously leaning one way. (EX. Fox News.) While others just show minute signs of their affinity.

So I should be able to see the clear picture by watching both sides. Of course on the topic above I believe that the parents should be the ones deciding what their children are doing. What they watch, what they look up online, and what they play should all be monitored by the Parent. It is the parents fault if they are too lazy or stupid to look on the back of a game and see that it is rated for mature audiences.

The "news" will blame games for society's problems because most of these people dont play games & rely on hear say and spin.
When Mass effect came out certain congress members (I'm Irish so dont ask me which one) came out saying the game was full of sex because of one/two parts of the game.
When grand theft auto 1&2 came out no moral out cry because it was on the PC and most people playing it were old enough to know the difference between a game & real life. Then gta 3, vice city & SA were available on PS2 which every house seem to have and parenys found out what kids are playing.
In a perfect world 18's/M rated games would be played by people they are intended for but as long as games advertise as heavy as do kids will want to play them so FOX/CBS or whoever will complain.
In the 60's they gave out about punk, 70's horror movies. 80's metal, 90's grunge & dance music. Now games are the easy target - when something else comes along they'll attack that.
Anyway a 2min rant for someone who knows nothing about games isnt gonna affect a games sales probably increase them.

Just came across this
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1358742/Ex-soldier-Rocky-Donadio-punched-boy-8-coma-Xbox-game.html?ito=feeds-newsxml
lets hope they dont get a hold of this story or games will probably get banned.
Cant really blame the parents for this one.......
