I used to be a heroin/opiate addict and it was a very dark time in my life... I was wondering if anyone else has dealt with this grim fate?

Fortunately, I haven't been through it myself, but I know a few people who have and I can agree that it's a dark place to be. This is not only true of the person addicted but of the family and friends who also have to deal with it. One of my close friends was addicted to painkillers, another to alcohol and another to cocaine. All three of them have since gotten sober, but it was very hard and they had to hit rock bottom before they saw their problem for what it was and sought help. The truth about addiction is that it's an illness and it rarely if ever goes away on it's own; drug treatment and continued counseling is what has helped my friends and what is really needed when battling an addiction. Good for you for getting out of that cycle! Sadly, many do not.

I honestly think you're asking in the wrong place here, I think the depth of addiction for these lovable chaps would be to sonic or mario :P

I used to be an alcho, if that helps? When I started vomitting bile on a regular occurence, I decided to go cold turkey, was damn hard but it's been 2 years now. I've had a single drinking session with my buddy in December, but I don't think I can go back, the draw is far, far too strong.

But I guess that's my problem, moderation isn't a term in my vocabulary :|

for about 4-5 years i was drinking almost everyday. Id drink between split shifts at work and couldnt get to sleep without a good few beers. I felt ill most days until i got a drink in me. Thing is, in the uk, or scotland at least, its fairly common to drink a lot. If you say to someone your an alcoholic they just say that they drink a lot too and just brush it off as if your kinda joking.

I got a grip of my problem and am fine now. I still drink but only in moderation. I have the odd night where ill go a bit wild but it doesnt happen often. I personally felt that if i just stopped drinking i wasnt really controlling my problem, i would just be avoiding it.

Alcohol is a big difference from heroin and cocaine though. Its not something you do in moderation, coke has really changed some of my old friends. To the point that i dont even know them anymore. Its a real shame. :(
