I want to make a Youtube Channel, and I need help.

I always wanted to start up a youtube channel, because I've almost felt somewhat disconnected from the rest of the community.

The problem is:

-I like videogames more than the average gamer, but I'm not heavy into videogames, meaning I probably have weeks where I wont play anything (if not months depending on school).

-I like music (listen to classic, jazz, prog, metal, country, electronic etc), but I'm neither a guru in this aspect either. I don't listen to anything that isn't already praised.

-Same could go for just about anything, I'm a VERY moderate person. But I'm afraid my lack of focus wouldn't be too appealing to the rather niche-based youtube audience.

Game forum members, admin and mods! What do?

Hey its pretty easy to make a youtube channel mate but the hard part is the videos. If you are going for a professionl looking video setup its going to be way more stressful and tedious than doing amature pick up videos and so on.

I highly reccomend starting with videos like pickups and discussions rather than reviews. this is what i call or am trying to coin as the "pete dorr" style reviews.

Any ways please check out my channel make your own channel and hey ill help support your channel if you support mine. That goes to all who see this.

if you give me one comment and a subscription ill subscribe add you as a friend and leave 3 comments 3 dif videos. and i feel your channels really good i may do more.

Mr.Zerox123 heres some links to my best videos so far.

To be honest, I don't have the money to do a pick up video. But also, Sorry if you guys might find this to be rude, I find pick up videos rather shallow.

To do quality videos would require some additional equipment (aside from a camera), wouldn't it? Would I have to take the criticism for reviewing well-known games that I enjoy? (SoTC, Phantasy Star, Demon's Souls)

I would only do a youtube page to communicate with the rest of the community, not for subscriptions.. But I want to produce shorter, quality videos.. But at the same time videos that have more of a narrative feel. (happyconsolegamer has a narrative feel)

I guess I find it difficult to believe that Pete and Johnny have gotten so far as to the point that: The community feels less like a circle, and more like watching TV. If that makes sense. But then again, Jedite, Armake and Spoony are pretty much gone.

You don't necessarily need more equipment to make a quality video. Everyone that puts a YouTube video up will take some sort of criticism, you just can't let it bother you. I don't see anything wrong with reviewing a well-known game. I'm sure there are plenty of kids who want a certain video game and their parents would like to see the reviews on the game before they decide if its suitable for them. Most parents aren't to familiar with gaming websites and would probably look at YouTube for answers.

You're definitely right, but I was meaning taking criticism from the more established youtubers. I couldn't imagine not taking criticism from the audience.

Hey dude, I'd take the plunge and at least try, you've got absolutely nothing to lose, and YouTube Criticism is hardly the end of the world.

The amount of times I've been insulted online, I've lost count, and not once has it effected me, why should it? In my experience, views to comment ratios can be broken down into:

80% - Will watch. Won't comment.
19% - will watch, will give a nuetral or positive comment
1% - Will watch, give a negative comment.

I've recently gone through a transition myself, I used to do pickup videos, but I've dropped them in favour of doing game reviews. At the end of the day, don't think you're obligued to do anything, do it because you ENJOY it.

Letting negativity stifle what you enjoy is wrong.
Letting the potential of negativity stop you from trying something, is wrong.
VSigma100: If I've learned anything on here it's that Andsy is a crazy bastard. LOL.

I have a channel that had a few videos on it, and over time I decided that I could do better, so I decided to take them down and start redoing things, change topics, focus, whatever. As far as what you do, I'll pose this question... Why do you want to do it? I could be wrong or reading in to what you are saying too much, but it kinda sounds like you're looking for some sort of immediate recognition for your thoughts/ideas. If that's the case, I'd probably recommend not bothering, because unless you somehow luck out and make a video that goes viral, you're going to be looking at a decent amount of time before you get anyone really watching you.

Now, if you want to do it for you, for fun, whatever, and aren't worried about views, subscribers, etc. right off the bat, then by all means go for it! And also think about it this way, 1. If you're doing it for yourself, who cares what other people think, say, comment, whatever... and 2. Having a channel that isn't instantly watched/recognized is not a bad thing, as it gives you time to work on being in front of a camera, speaking skills, editing skills, etc.

And to answer your question about quality of videos, that's a pretty broad paintbrush. If you have killer content, most people that end up watching you will be for the content, not because of a slick video. Go compare Pete and John's videos (no offense guys! :)) to Jason and Johnny's videos. They're drastically different in audio/video quality, and yet they're all popular due to their content. Having some editing skills are just icing on the cake, and a flashy video isn't really going to hide lack of content.

Just my 2 cents. :)

I'm not exactly sure if recognition is the right word. I'm not, and wouldn't be able to create videos deserving recognition. I was looking to be part of the community. Part of the community in as much as being part of a circle of friends. Of course, I'd want to make my interests in the subject recognized, or even glorified, and doing so would require polish.

The person with the 'slickest' videos will be the one who gains the widest audience, no matter what the content is. This isn't particularly what I'm going for, but I think you couldn't be anymore wrong.

I always had kind of a similiar problem.

I once already started a YouTube account, and i got a fair bit of Subscribers, including 2 good YouTubers, but that wasn't really what mattered to me. I just felt like my Videos where cheap, and i felt like my talking sucked, adding the fact that English isn't my mother language. That made my talking sound really confused, and it really sounded like i wasn't shure about what to talk.

I would really like to RE-start a show, but i would definitely need a better camera, a HD (or at least HQ) Video Card, and i'd prefer to focus on well put-togheter reviews and maybe stuff like Playtroughs. I think Pick up Videos just became something really stupid everybody does, that doesn't really have alot of sense.

One thing i really liked to see, is that Andsy stopped doing those boring Videos everbody did. He is now doing a Review show, which i feel is alot better than it was before.

Well, i think to make a good YouTube Channel, you really gotta put your mind to your Videos, create something new, make different things than what everybody does, something that stands out. Talking about haters, that's really not a problem, it's usually a really small %.

You just need to make sure you are having fun with it. Don't do it for subs, etc. Do for yourself.

If it ever gets to a point where its too cumbersome or not fun, then whats the point?

I love talking about games and I love the community of YouTube, that's why I do it :)
