It's definitely sad case of video game addiction overtaking and ultimately ending someone's life, and hopefully others will learn from it and temper their passion to avoid a similar fate. How someone could go that long without food or sleep, I don't understand, but I guess there are extremes in every addiction. Oddly enough, I only hear of these deaths occurring in Asian countries like China and Korea.

Its ridiculous how involved he was though. I mean over £500 on online gaming in a week? I cant understand that. And your right Browland you don't really hear this stuff coming from closer to home. Some of the comments on the article were utterly stupid. Some people blaming the publishers etc for making games too addictive. No one seems to be stepping back and saying that guy clearly had deep personal issue's.

As with all addictions, there is a certain degree of scapegoating involved in which people blame everyone BUT the addict for the problem. I think it's absurd, akin to those knobheads who sued McDonalds because the food contributed to their obesity. Well, what did they expect to happen?

Ultimately, the addict and his family should have taken steps to resolve the situation before it escalated to this point. There must have been warning signs prior to his death, not the least of which is the money he was spending on the games alone. It's sad, but nobody forced the game controller into this poor guy's hands. If I become addicted to something, be it drugs, alcohol or games, I am solely responsible for whatever happens to me. The same applies here. I'm not for blaming the victim per se, but I also don't think passing off responsibility to others is a solution either.

Ds Games!

Just more proof obsessing over anything isn't healthy and can have very negative consequences. It's a shame someone's life had to end this way.

Hey I know! I'll have 300 apples a day and see what happens! =D

Anything is harmful when done in excess...

Yeah, it truly is a shame to see something like this happen to someone. I mean, I love video games just as much as the next guy, but even I know where to stop. Like you, I don't understand how anyone no matter how much they were addicted could go that long. I mean three days? How could you not just doze off naturally? My brother even dozed off after only a few hours sometimes.
