The underdogs of gaming cause; For those developers who aren't getting the money they deserve

This is something i thought i would do for the rest of the current generation; I am never going to buy a single game from platinum games, Nis, atlus, Xseed, Ninja theory, Double fine, and etc. used.
The reason being is that these companies offer great ideas to games and it is something everyone is asking for, but there also not selling.
People complain about call of duty and halo (not bashing those) and they are always saying they want something new and fresh. Then a game like Vanquish or madworld comes out and it barely sells. Some of these games are also never heard of because of all the hype going around other games (case in point shadows of the damned, look it up)
So I am now taking a pledge to stop buying games like marvel vs capcom 3 new and to start buying hyperdimension neptunia new. These companies are hurting and I wouldn't want to see any of these companies go away and i'm sure any gamer wouldn't want them too either.
So of course i'm not forcing anyone to do anything but when it comes to a sequel and a new ip, get the new ip because its not like the sequel is going anywhere and there is a company that really needs their masterpiece to be sold. If you don't do that then if you can, try to buy these games new (if its in your budget of course) and support the underdog company. :prinny2: :vb: :dc: [luigidance]

For a second, I didn't see the "used" part of the first sentence, and I was wondering how this was going to help the developers. Haha.

Yeah, I'll definitely try to buy new games from developers like these if they look appealing to me and they're on a console/handheld I own. I was really glad I bought a new copy of 999 so the developers and publishers got their well-earned money.

Ds Games!

I buy new atlus and Xseed games all the time on amazon cause they usually get price drops and come with bonus cd's. I enjoy all the unique games these developers put out on the ds.

Sega Does What Nintendon't

I pre-order all my NIS America games from there web sight because they always come with extra swag. Anyone that's into NIS America games and a collector should do the same because the extras often go for crazy amounts on places like eBay because of how limited they are. Just look at the prices of the deck of cards that came with Hyperdimension Neptunia.

I also think that game reviews hurt game sales a lot. Vanquish is a great game and I am very happy I picked it up even tho G4 bashed it giving it a mediocre rating and then made fun of the characters portraying them to be gay.

Sadly most of today's "gamers" dont want to give a game a chance unless it has a 9 out of a 10 rating and that score is just someones opinion that's being payed to review games.

I totally agree, a lot of gaming websites give these unheard of games for no reason; for example, disgaea 3. I remember when it first came out people said that it should of been on the ps2 because of the sprite graphics. Because of that a lot of people thought the game would feel old and be bad.

It makes me so sad to see the brilliant content that comes out of these companies fall into obscurity so often. The mainstream review sites don't give them their due; shiny seems to outrank creative. And when people talk about Japanese RPGs - and Japanese development in general - dying creatively, I wonder if they've forgotten companies like Atlus and Nis. I just recently started discovering games from these companies, and I am also going to be giving them buying precedent over big-name titles. Not only for the principle of helping out the underdogs and promoting creativity, but also just because they're better. B-)
So says Mr. Stewart.

I wouldn't consider atlus an underdog. They are pretty damn strong at what market they are targeting.

As for NIS...when you release tons of crappy games(sure there are some good ones, but look at their track record) what do you expect?

Xseed is Xseed. I don't know their exact revenue, but again they are targeting a specific market of people and they are doing well.

You can't compare people making hardcore jrpgs to a company like EA who doesn't even touch that market. An underdog would be a producer who underachieves in sales while delivering a solid game that competes against people in the same genre. IE someone makes a better shooter than CoD, but it gets completely overlooked.

All the companies you stated do good in their own right. Seriously, ever since the collector scene has grown substantially and hardcore gamers have been more centralized it has turned former underrated things into overrated.

I don’t think I completely agree with you three, Atlus nowadays is a juggernaut, they produce budget games with minimum assets and earn a lot of praise because of their creativity, you can’t compare them to say EA or Capcom, those people put millions of dollars in production of their games this is why they attract wider audience with their flashy graphics & tight production, Atlus & Nis America are on a different league, they attract hardcore gamers who like a specific kind of art style & storytelling and wouldn’t mind the budget feel, I’m sure a lot of their audience would prefer big budget graphics in this style but this is their only option, who wouldn’t want Persona 3 to be made with the budget of FF 13 I know I would, but that’s not gonna happen anytime soon..

And about buying these games used, most of the time it’s not even possible to find Nis America & Xseed titles laying around in barging bins & the used section because they are produced in very limited quantities, fans of these companies have learned the hard way not to wait on the price to drop because anytime these titles might be out of stock & you would pay arms & limbs to get them..

Peace..
