I love 7 and 8, in fact, I think they are both very UNDERrated (yes I said it).

But FFIX is my favorite Final Fantasy (and RPG for that matter) of all time. Everything is just absolutely perfect.

Final Fantasy 9. That game has some of the best music, the best main character, and overall best story. Final Fantasy 7 I enjoyed as well, but has not aged well at all. Final Fantasy 8 is one of the two games in the series I haven't finished, and probably never will.

played 7 and 8 when they were released and I loved both of them to death. I always had a special place in my heart for 8 though. Most people I have met disagree with me when I say this and usually it's because of either

1. The draw system
2. The slow pace

While I totally understand that the draw system is a little flawed in the beginning of the game after disk one you are able to refine most of the magic you will need. As for the slow pace, the biggest thing I found was most of those who didn't like the game never got past the first disk of the game. This isn't that hard to believe since the first disk takes about 10 hours and with such slow game play players got bored and overwhelmed by the draw system.

I just started playing 8 again and am about 20 hours in and I'd recommend it to anyone who can stand ps1 graphics.

As for 9.... sadly I have never played it. I was thinking after I finish 8 I'd finally pick it up and give it a try.

To be honest i never really gave 8 much of a chance, but after reading this i think i might start looking for another copy.

9 is by far my favorite of the three. Also my favorite game of all time Period. Though some people would argue that the few nonessential characters ruin it I actually enjoy their presence in the game. Vivi Is my favorite character though.
Final fantasy 7 is my second favorite and It is about dead center when it comes to my favorite numbered FF games.
8 is my least favorite of the 3 and one of the only ff games that I have not actually completed. Though I have watched it be completed by a friend. FF8 is probably in my bottom Four FF games.

I just wanted to say I love your sig. Very overlooked system with some quality RPGs, BK included. Anyways I would have to say IX, but VII does have a large nostalgia-factor. Honestly they're both great, and as for VIII... well... I'm not the biggest fan but the first half of the first disc was stellar. Unfortunately my interest went downhill from there.

For any of those who are interested in trying out 8 one more time I have a few warnings for you. If you are any younger than 15 I would not recommend this game to you. During my current play through of the game I can say that to truly take in all of the story you need to put your focus into the game. The story takes many twists and turns that sometimes give major clues towards the story and then never mention anything about it again for several hours. When I played 8 for the first time I was around 13 years old and really only cared that I now had over 20 summons to track down and watch their amazing visual displays when summoned.

If you start the game.... do not stop. I can guarantee you will forget where to go next in the story due to all of these twists and turns I had told you about earlier. This game is a little different due to its focus on the relationship built between two characters. Some may find watching this growing relationship a tad boring, but if you like a story with depth dealing with love, greed, courage, and growing up in general.

Give it a try! I mean the game is 11 dollars new on amazon... 50 hours of game play for 11 bucks and its a classic FF title? That should be enough to warrant a pick up.

7 for sure from me. Ironic this thread comes up right after I made my FF ranking list video so I went into all that lol.

I love 9 also, but 7 will always have a special place in my heart.

FF8 though...to put it i bluntly you just "released the Kraken" in me. I despise that game. It is my personal most hated game of all time. I don't feel like saying why as I have gone into this way too many times and it would end up being an essay to type out. If anyone cares enough I can make a separate thread with spoilers explaining my hate and stupidity of this game on many levels.

I have actually turned people who love FF8 question their intelligence and outlook of the game a bit. The intelligence part is due to liking the idiotic story btw and trust me I have the arguments to back up why I make such direct claims about this game.

I don't care what games anyone chooses to like for the most part. It has nothing to do with me, but FF8 is hell personified in a game so to say.

is 8 perfect in my eyes? No... like most games from over 10 years ago flaws will be had and they will likely be plentiful. It sounds to me like you have legitimate reasons to feel the way you do Richard. I'm playing the game again right now as I said before which has been very different this time around being 23 years old instead of 12. I have begun to notice some of these flaws you've mentioned Rich but as I said before I can look past flaws if it brings me back to being 12 years old.

I am so happy to see Final Fantasy IX getting so much love. It is so overlooked and it makes me sad.

I think it's pretty obvious which one is my favorite, but incase it's not obvious - my favorite is Final Fantasy IX. I love everything, and I mean everything about this game. It is and always will be my favorite game of all time. I got it for Christmas the year it was released, and still can not get enough of that game. ;p I think I'm gonna replay it soon. I haven't played it yet this year. Oh and once I finish all the collection videos on my youtube channel,I'm going to post my FFIX collection. I love collecting merchandise especially if it's FFIX related.

And Final Fantasy VIII comes in second out of the three. It's a wonderful game, and definitely one of my top ten overall favorite games.

I really enjoyed both VII & VIII. Both have a large nostalgia factor to me so my opinion is probably biased lol. FFVII had a great battle system, music, and story so I was hooked and played through multiple times.

FFVIII had an interesting battle system, which I grew to enjoy. The equipping of magic to your states created a level of strategy in how to fight the battles. Also, as the bosses and enemies would level with you, the only way to win would be to rethink your strategy. There was no grindfest to level past whatever difficulty to overcome challenges, which I personally do not enjoy much. I think it had more creativity than people give it. I didn't really get much into the story though, I still don't understand it fully to this day.

I personally have not played FFIX. I planned to about 6months ago, but my PS2 decided to freeze and not read games anymore lol. My vote goes for FFVII.

Final fantasy 7 is a lot of fun and i actually like most of the characters. The story really had me immersed and i felt i could really realate to the character.

Final Fantasy 8...im 50/50 on this. I personally think the story and the characters are rrrrrubbish. I dont care for them at all. I really like the junctioning and refining systems, they are so un-balanced that you can get some real badass magic before your first real assignment. Love the card game too!

I dont have a bad thing to say about this, i only got like halfway but i do plan on picking it up again at some point in the year. This is a proper final fantasy...considering its not set in a future with big nasty robots kicking about. I love the characters, they are all really fleshed out and you can really connect with them. Learning the abilities is a great system too, i prefer the job system in FFV but this is quite similar. Not so much of a fan of the card game in this though.

I really cant choose between 7 and 9 until i actually finish 9...though from what i've seen i reckon i'll be choosing it haha.

These are by far the best FF games out there. They far outshine the PS2 & PS3 game(s).....but if I would have to choose I'd have to say Final Fantasy IX.

But if I wouldn't have to choose then I would have to say both FFVII and FFIX.
They are both absolute masterpieces!!
FFVIII, falls a little bit behind, but I still like it much more then any other FF besides VII & IX.

I really wish Square Enix would go back to the medieval, cartoony kind of FF game, just like FFIX. I'm just not too fond of the more modern look.
I know we have games like FF Crystal Chronicles and the Nintendo DS games, but I would love to see a new FF like part IX with the same kind of big bucks and grandness behind it like FFXIII.

I just got to disk 3 for FF8 this week. All I can say is while I do remember playing these scenes from the game when I was 12.... I am surprised about how long it took to find out the real story of this game.

Since you see the game's story through Squall's eyes nothing about the story is revealed to you by any leader figure (Cid). The whole time your left guessing as to what is actually going on in the story (there are many events that take place that contradict what you, the viewer think is going on). It took me about 25 hours to learn the real reason why all this madness in the beginning of the story is going on.

This all sounds like I'm being negative about the game but I still feel the same way I did all those years ago. I love 8 and that is why I can handle the 25 hours of not knowing whats going on and questioning what i'm seeing. I can now see why many say they don't like the story of this game though. I mean 25 hours is a serious amount of time for enlightenment.

Yeah, I like FFVI....it's defintely great, but IMO it doesn't give me the same amazing experience as the PS1 games. (the NES games too) And I actually love 16-bit RPG's in general!

Same goes for the PS2 outings, even though they had better graphics and voice acting, I can't say, looking back, that they've left me with the same tingly feeling as the PS1 games. I enjoyed FFX, despised FFX-2 and FFXII is love/hate thing for me (the amazing soundtrack is a plus).

I can play the PS1 games on and on...and they never get old for me. I played them several times on the PS1, but years later also on the PSP/PS3 (the PSN downloads) and they were just as immersive and addicting as (more then) 10 years back.
