Do you have any gaming rituals or traditions?

-If I start a game I'm bound and determined to play through the whole thing before I start a different game. It doesn't always happen with new games being released and such but its something I always try to do.

-If I'm at home I need to be in my favorite chair and in front of my TV I'm used to playing on. If I play at someone else's house its like I lost whatever touch I had with gaming.

-Lights off, blinds shut. A must in my opinion.

Yours?

I tend to have to focus on only one game at a time. If I don't play it for a few weeks I either have to give up on it or start from scratch.

I used to try to beat the game as soon as I got it. Play the whole game through within a day most of the time. Not so much anymore. I still have a bunch of games that I need to beat.

I have to use my lucky Xbox 360 controller, my analog stick moves really easily and my A button, a feather can drop on it and it would think it's pressed. It's from playing so much Gears of War and tapping the hell out of the A button to get up.

If I'm playing with a friend I always have to be on the left side of the couch.

Since '06 baby.

Anyways, for like 5 summers in a row my best friend and I used to beat a few Gamecube titles (Pikmin, Luigi's Mansion, Star Fox: Adventures, LoZ Wind Waker, and Super Mario Sunshine) religiously. I wish I could say I'm good about beating games that I start but I have a terrible habit of playing a game then stopping half way through.

I do this for shooters. But playing Chrono Cross on a lazy summer day with the sun shining through your windows? There's nothing like it.

If I am really hyped for a game then when I get I will binge play it the first day-week. This occurs probably 2-4 times a year.

Most recent being Dragon Age 2.

Really depends for me, if its a game i have been saving up for then I throw into my system right away and play through most of it in one sitting, kinda like what i did for Black Ops. If not I wait until friday night and play all night and into saturday afternoon.

I don't really have any rituals or traditions. I do most generally have to play a game in its entirety before starting another one, which I should try to remedy so that I can be more diversified and play more types of games instead of having to master one and only then moving on. But for me, gaming is a way to relax. I see so much at work, that when I come home at night and on my days (very limited, but much enjoyed) off, gaming is a way to unplug, to forget everything and just enjoy and appreciate the game and playing it.

New Game Smell - When buying a new game, I wait till I get home and open the game and immediately sniff the inside of the case, as well as the manual. I've done this ever since I was a kid, except back then the opening would happen in the car on the way home. By doing that, I could have the manual read before I got home to play, thus wasting no time.

I like to set the right mood before I get into some serious gaming, since atmosphere and comfort play a big part in the overall experience. I change into my shorts or a pair of comfy pants if it's cold, arrange some beverages according to mood - beer or wine if I'm feeling it or Perrier water if I'm not, and I set up some non-greasy snacks I can enjoy. Dry-roasted almonds, Wine Gums and Peanut Butter M&Ms are my staples. I turn off the lights, sink back into my comfy chair and away we go!

As for rituals associated with new games, I don't really have any. I will often buy a game and try to crack it open the same night, but if I'm not in a rush, I'll often wait until the weekend since gaming on a work night is not always doable.

Yessir, can't wait for Gears of War 3 (and beta). I only played 2 for a little while then took it back. I'm thinking about picking it up again once Gears of War 3 gets closer to releasing.

If im getting into a hardcore rpg or sitting down for a session I keep my spare laptop near by for with a just in case walkthrough up ( I know I suck)
And so I can skype with a buddy without fear of it overburdening my computer. look up builds and random info if need be.
Have big glass of water, maybe some crackers laying around and last but not least a hammer I can chuck down the hallway for random fits of nerd rage!

I always have a bunch of grapes lying next to me on the table while playing I just cant get enough of them!

I really don't have any gaming rituals that I do on a consistent basis, but my wife actually has one gaming ritual that she has done for a fairly long time, which is kind of strange since she really doesn't play video games anymore.

Every Christmas she plays Parasite Eve, its kind of strange because she absolutely loves that game. She'll haul out the ps2 every christmas and play Parasite eve just about every Christmas holiday and play the game. It is the only real gaming tradition that really exists in my household.

I have to fully explore each area before I progress to the next section of the level / map / etc. This is frustrating on stages that move or are timed for me.

if its a non-story intensive game (like pokemon or a fighter) I sit on skype with a group of my gamer friends and just bs, normally turns into someone calling someone out in smash brothers, blazblue or super mario strikers lol

for story intensive games, I do the lights off, line up 3 bottles of water, like 6 diet cokes and a pack of gum. Oh and I eat, and all that stuff before I start so I don't waste time lol..
