What gadget should you use to record yourself playing on a tv?; Just out of curiosity, how would you go about doing such a thing? Does it depend on what console you're using?

I make playthroughs for Youtube with my friends. I've only started doing this recently, and honestly.. Well, it's a little embarrassing to say in a forum like this, but I have no gaming equipment. Nada. No consoles, no games, nothing. However, I do have my Macbook Pro and Screenflow. Not the most ideal thing for someone who wants to make playthroughs (in terms of game availability) but hey, it's functional.
My friends have consoles, and I will most likely get one soon too, so I was just wondering what sort of gadget to look for to use to record oneself on a tv console.
Thanks ^^

I use the Dazzle DVC 100. The best settings for it are MPEG-1/2 on Medium (?) Quality settings. No frame loss or anything, and it works great!
