I always wanted to do a web cast on video gaming. Especially since I have been gamining since 1977. I wanted to do video's on techniques of finding games and systems especially at auctions as well as game reviews and of my collection of memorabilia of 33 years worth. But to get back to the original question, would people want to watch Youtube video's of a 39 year old guy who has been gaming since the beginning or would this be a waste of time? Thanks in advance, Brian |

Yes they would. The 8-14 year olds that mainly only play halo and call of duty may not be interested, but everyone else will be, especially people around here, just as long as you do a good job. |

Yes. Assuming you're knowledgeable then a thousand times yes. Experience and wisdom are two valuable things. |

Some of the most popular gaming youtubers are older guys. Look at MattChat. He gets interviews with the original gurus of gaming and has a totally unique experience on his channel. If it is interesting and knowledgeable then go for it and post a link for us to watch. The only time that I feel someone is "too old" is when I saw a couple of channels of guys that looked like they were in their 40s-50s, dressed in rags basically, forgot what a razor was, and stood their pointing games at the screen with not too much substance like the abundance of teenage gaming channels we have on youtube. It was awkward to say the least... |

Of course! Anybody gaming since the 70s surely has some interesting knowledge to share with everybody. While the majority on YouTube might be 12 - 30, all ages are represented in the Gaming Community. |

The great thing about Youtube and webcasting is that there is no barrier to entry, least of all age. I think being older actually works to your advantage, since you were coming of age during the genesis (pun intended) of the video gaming medium and you can offer perspectives on retro gaming that younger gamers cannot. As others have said, if you have the knowledge and the personality to hold a channel together, people will support you and age will be a non-issue. If anything, it will lend you credibility. I'm 30 years old myself and I remember vividly the days of the 8-bit era emerging and the 16-bit era that followed. You can read about those days on the internet or in books, but having actually lived and been a part of it is something totally different. In other words, do it! I'd definitely check out your channel. Speaking of which, I need to start my own soon. Gotta get to work on that ![]() |
