I don't know about you guys but I've recently noticed that I have an absolutely terrible habit of picking up new games (this could be one title or as many as 3 to 5 depending on whats coming out) where I buy a game and never finish it. I decided today that since I have recently picked up the 3DS I will no longer buy a game just because it peaks my interest and will instead finish a game first and then pick up a new title.

Anyone else have this problem or decided to go the way I have?

I had this problem, I'd buy a cool looking game, play it for like 5 hours total and then never play it again. I pretty much have stopped buying games all together now, mainly because I only play my PS3 and I don't see any games coming out that even peak my interest. The only games I want to pick up this year are Saints Row 3 and Resistance 2. But yeah, I am only picking up games now that I KNOW I will play a lot and that I KNOW I will beat.

I'm in two minds about this.

1. I have in the region of 200 games that I own and need to finish.

2. I prefer buying games when they're cheaper

3. I wanna buy at launch and actively support the developers, buying 2nd hand, or months after release isn't helping them. Their bracket for profit is like, the first 2 weeks.

Exactly.... My biggest problem is my most purchased and played games are RPGs. Some of these take 60 hours to beat so I've purchased about 10 or so new RPG games and I just don't have the time to play them. I just opened up my game drawer and realized there were several games I was playing 50 to 60 dollars for only to collect dust.

Andsy.... You just covered another point that I am dealing with right now with the 3DS. I REFUSE TO BUY GAMES FROM GAMESTOP NOW! I really want to help out nintendo with 3DS sales but after throwing down nearly 300 dollars after tax for the 3DS and 43 dollars for a single game... I just don't have the funds to keep doing this.

I have this problem too, exactly like KeeL246 described, it's just that i play the games for 1-2 hours and then never touch them again. Due to this reason i'm buying very few games lately.

I think we can all identify with this problem, since about 99% of us have more games than we have time to play. My solution is to do my homework and only buy games I really want as opposed to buying them on impulse because of the cool factor. True, you do find some gems when you're spontaneous, but I find that my gaming time is limited and I am forced to be selecting.

I research my games ahead of time and decide if it's going to be a first-day purchase or if it's relegated to the back burner. For example, Dead Space 2, Bulletstorm and Killzone 3 are games that I was eagerly awaiting and I bought them the first day. I've since beaten two out of the three games, with Killzone 3 being next. On the other hand, games like Crysis 2, Home Front and Test Drive Unlimited are games I don't feel a pressing need to get, so I'll wait to get them when then price drops or they turn up used. I have no moral quandry about buying second-hand games. I like to save money whenever possible, so I won't spent $60 or more on a game I don't know I'll like or I don't feel is worth it. Having said that, my beef with Gamestop still stands, so I'll avoid them and buy from one of my indie stores and support them.

man... If only I had an indie store around here.... Unfortunately I'm left with 8 gamestops in my city. Amazon is the only way I go but with that comes the fact that I usually can't see the game i'm purchasing so I have to rely on seller honesty.

I don't think you should inhibit your buying, just be strict and play games through until your done with them and then move on to the next. It's always better to pick up a game when you find it cheap if you now it's a game your gonna buy anyway, or one that's hard to find, then just make sure you finish what you've started before moving on. This is what I do with my ds games.

I've generally had good experiences with Amazon marketplace sellers, but you do need to pay attention to their item descriptions and feedback. There was one instance where a seller listed an item as "Like New", which means that it's complete and near mint, and it ended up being a rental copy with plenty of scuffs and a photocopied manual. I looked over his feedback and he apparently had quite a few happy customers, but even some of them noted that the condition was misrepresented in the listing. Thankfully, I filed a claim and was able to get my money back.

To me the problem really isn't the time. I just quickly loose interest in the Games i buy, if i don't feel like it's something outstanding. A few weeks ago i just felt like i'm spending to much money on games i have no interest for, so i made a rule to myself; if i want to buy a new game, i first have to beat the one i bought before it.

It's kind of working, and in the end, i think all that matters is that you have to put a little bit of effort into it.

Something I've been trying to do more recently is getting behind on new games. For example, there were a handful of games that came out this past fall that I didn't buy or play. Now it's about 4-5 months later and I've managed to get a copy of Fable 3 for $20 and Hawx 2 for $25. Much better then $60 a piece. I'm trying to hold off on games that are coming out now(spring) and waiting till the fall to buy them. Of course I cant pass on all new games. :)

I personally buy a lot of retro games so I don't have much of an issue when it comes to purchasing games. I do a lot of Thrift store hunting and have come out with some amazing deals and find myself quite happy with my current collection of games.

When it comes to newer titles, I usually buy 2nd hand as well. I find no interest in paying $50-60 for a new title that just came out. Most games, unless they are blockbuster hits or gems, drop in price over time so I feel it pays to wait (literally).

I can relate though, I do have more games than I can play at the moment lol. If I see a good deal, I usually don't question it and just buy it, regardless of whether or not I'll play it anytime soon.

With regards to purchasing new games. We're already into the 4th month of 2011 and I have not played one game that has been released this year, even though i have purchased a few games. The games that I have purchased are the anime style games that have been released for mostly the psp and ps3. The reason why I purchase them with no plans of playing them anytime in the near future because unfortunately places such as EB Games (Gamestop) do not get very many copies of them. If you don't get these games within the first week of their release you'll be hard pressed to find them anywhere in town. Then your only option is to go to ebay, amazon, or other sites and they end up begin a little more expensive then they're retail price.

Games such as HyperDimension Neptunia, Ar Tonelico 3, Ys Chronicles I & 2, The Legend of Heroes: Trails of the Sky are excellent examples of games you can't find out in the open anymore because you need to get them at the moment of their release or they become a little too hard to find.

A lot of people give me a lot of grief because I literally ignore a lot of the bigger titles that have a lot of advertising or a lot of money behind it just to cater to my own individual gaming tastes. I haven't played a game that has been nominated for game of the year in the last 6 or 7 years. The funny thing is that even though I love my anime style games there are very popular titles I would like to try to see what all the hype is about such as Fallout 3, Uncharted Series, and the Bioshock series. I never ever feel that need or requirement to keep up with the current age in gaming, and what I realize is that these really popular titles that sell upon millions and millions of copies are going to so cheap and accessible to get as long as your willing to wait.

I don't really have to stay up to date with what is popular in gaming, because I'm perfectly okay playing retro titles and always staying a few generations behind everybody else. While I do buy games that are released this year, the only purpose is to get them because they have a very limited release. I just save more money by choosing to wait to play the more popular titles 3 to 7 years after their initial release date.

Man I couldn't agree more. I just took a look at all the games I've picked up since about this time last year and only 1 was a new game for my ps3. The rest were all either PS1, gamecube, ps2, supernintendo, GBA... things like that.

I can say without hesitation that you really need to get the Uncharted series now. With the new game coming out this November it's a great time to get both the first and second game for a very cheap price. This series is by far the best mainstream series there is in modern gaming. Hands down the most beautiful looking game on the system in my opinion.

Oh and one more thing. What did you think of The Legend of Heroes: TofS? I just ordered it for the exact reason you stated and it should be getting delivered to my house this afternoon.

I am too much of a collector to do this. I have tried making this resolution, but I just always have an urge to expand my collection with great games.

I am going back and playing my games though and I am finishing everything. I am not going to shelf a game and I am limiting myself to playing a few games at a time. There are some games like Shining Force that I am just taking slowly, but surely. It isn't a long game, but I can't really play it for more than an hour or at max two in a row so I am taking it chunk by chunk and I find this working out for me.

I find that I am not buying many new games either. I actually find it to be a smart decision though because today I was looking at many games I wanted to pick up before new when they released and now the prices of those have dropped 30-80%.

Basically, expand my classic gaming collection because the game prices on those games just go up and up and hold off on the new games unless it is a must have title for me. It really saves a ton of money and you still get to game all you want.

I used to have that problem. I would see videos of a game without trying a demo or thoroughly finding information about it, purchasing it only to find out I disliked the game and regretted buying it.

Also I barely buy any new games, I usually wait for the price to drop on most unless I am a fan of the previous games in the series or it peaks my interest.
