After years of waiting, I've finally decided to make a YouTube channel but what is stopping me is a camcorder, and man, I am completely overwhelmed. There are so many of them out there, I can't decide what to get. I want to get a camcorder to record game footage from the TV. If you are wondering why I'm not using a capture device or other means of getting footage from the TV, it's because I want to review DS and PSP games as well as other handhelds, and so far there is no way to record them other than pointing a camera at it. I bought a really cheap camera at $25 just to test out if I can do it and I guess I can but the camera is really awful and it just ruins the TV's reception, so I need to get a good camera but I just don't know anything about them. So I'm asking you guys for help. What is the best camcorder to use to get good quality footage of games from a system by connecting it to the TV, and by pointing it at game handhelds. I'm also hoping to get it a reasonable price. I can go up to $250 but I really don't wish to invest that much money. |

Any of the Kodak Z-series(Zi6,Zi8, Playsport, Playtouch), any of the Flip Cameras (Flip Ultra, Flip mini), and the Sony Bloggie series. But here's what you are going to find when looking for one of the cameras. They are all going to do HD, which will mean no editing for you without getting some software also to do it(I think mac's can edit HD out of the box though). Those cameras are all roughly in the same price range, under $200, and all of those but the flip will require you to also buy or have an SD card to save the video to. Also keep in mind that if you do decide to record actual televisions or monitors, and they are the older CRT type instead of the flat panels of today, then you will get scan lines, which make the quality pretty bad. That's why a lot of people use video capture for those. Also don't expect TV/Movie quality out of a camera under $250. Some of them do nicely though for the small size. They all have their perks and their letdowns. I recommend starting out with those 3 brands, and looking up videos on youtube. For instance do a youtube search "Flip Mini Video Test" or stuff like that. There is also an advanced option under the search to see only videos in HD. Good luck in your research and shopping. If you have any questions that aren't about any particular model I can probably answer them. |

Insignia makes some really good HD cameras for cheap. I got a Insignia 'Full HD', and I think it was only around 175. |
