With the 3DS coming out, I know that some DS game prices are going to drop, others are going to go up...but I am going to start collecting for my DS, which I just refurbished on my own with a new shell, and new screens, very soon. I only have Pokemon White, HeartGold, Platinum, Sword of Mana, Mega Man StarForce 3 Red Joker, Kingdom Hearts 358/2, and SNK vs Capcom Card Fighters.

I'm really into RPGs, Platformers, adventure games, and strategy games. With both what I already own and this in mind, what games do you guys suggest?

I know I want the Mario and Luigi games and the new Donkey Kong game. But what else is out there for me? The DS has a HUGE library, and since I don't follow the DS much, I know I missed out on a lot of great games.

Ds Games!

For rpgs look into:

Final fantasy games
Dragon quest games
Chrono trigger
The dark spire
Nostalgia
Fighting fantasy
The world ends with you
LoZ phantom hourglass and spirit tracks

There are a few more I can recommend but they may not be as good as these or a bit more complicated for the sake of being complicated, so I'll stick to the above for now.

For platformers

New super Mario Bros
Yoshi's island ds
Super princess peach
Mario 64 ds
Contra 4
Henry hatsworth in the puzzling adventure
N+ (if it counts)
Giana sisters (european)
The legend of kage 2
All three castlevanias

Strategy, not counting puzzle games

The two advance wars games
The two age of empires games
Anno 1701
Panzer tactics
Fire emblem

As far as adventure goes, I find it had for me to fit games into this category, as I feel a lot of rpgs and platformers are adventure type games, so I'll throw in some games I didn't mention.

GTA chinatown wars
Ninja gaiden
Knights in the nightmare (hard to fit into one category)

For point and click/visual novel adventure types

Hotel dusk
Last window (european)
999
Broken sword
Ace attorney series

If you count FPS games as adventure:

Dementium 1 and 2
Metroid prime hunters

Welcome back to the wonderful world of the Nintendo DS, a world of excitement and intrigue.

DS has many great games, so many in fact, that after two years of buying as many good ones as I can, I still can't get all the ones I want.

James recommended a lot of great ones already. I'd also like to add Orcs & Elves, WireWay, and the Mario vs Donkey Kong games.

Oh yeah, Retro Game Challenge, Lufia (though some don't like this version, but I do), Golden Sun 3, Contra 4, the three Kirby's, Avalon Code, Space Invaders Extreme 1 & 2, Big Bang Mini, and a bunch others. Too many to list right now!

You forgot peggle and the picross games. I have a lot more to suggest but I was trying to limit myself to just those couple genres, but it's just too difficult.

I'll post a more comprehensive list of games later, but for now I will say that Radiant Historia is a must if you like RPGs. I also recommend that you keep a close eye on it and wait until another run is released so you can get it at non-scalper prices, though. (The cheapest copy at Amazon currently runs $50.)

Thanks for all of the suggestions guys! Keep them coming. Ideally, I want to create a list of 20 DS games that I will buy over the next year. So far, the ones I've decided on are...

Chrono Trigger
The World Ends With You
Kingdom Hearts Re: Coded
Mario and Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story
Mario and Luigi: Partner's In Time
Mario vs. Donkey Kong: Mini-Land Mayhem

You should get some of the Dragon Quest games. I never played one until I bought my 3DS but so far I bought Dragon Quest IX and Dragon Quest VI.

Dragon Quest IX: Sentinels of the Starry Skies is addicting. I've put just a little over 15 hours so far in the game and there is so much to do.

To that list of 20, add:

Ace Attorney series (five of them). One of the best series on the DS, and KingJames introduced me to them. They're also getting hard to find, so...they should top your list.

Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon, because Fire Emblem is my second-favorite franchise, behind MGS.

Get a Kirby game. :)

FOR SHAME.

No mention of Suikoden Tierkreis.

The voice acting is horrendous, but the remainder of the game more than makes up for it.

Plus, being a Suikoden game, it's just gunna get rarer and rarer...

I'll be sure to check it out, Andsy.

I also do plan on getting all of the DS Dragon Quest games, so no worries there!

Man, you are missing some of my all time favourite titles. One title i extremely enjoyed as opposite to some people is The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass, even though it was really easy. One other game i love is New Super Mario Bros. which i prefer by a fair bit over the Wii New Super Mario Bros.

People didn't enjoy it? Most people I know (99% of the people I know) loved the game. Everything about it was perfect minus the rolling which they fixed in Spirit Tracks.

I have put in around 3 - 4 hours in Phantom Hourglass. Never advanced beyond the first temple. I guess the Zelda series just isnt for me.

We will see with the Ocarina of Time 3D remake...

Phantom Hourglass is my least favorite one in the series that I've played. DS is my favorite system all the time, but it doesn't have my favorite necessarily in any particular established series. I recommend the original, Zelda 2: The Adventures of Link, Zelda 3: A Link to the Past. I also loved Zelda: Link's Awakening and the two Oracle games on the Gameboy. Those are my favorite. Not sure what it is, but Link's Awakening has some special magic about it. Always loved that game.

Buy Radiant Historia when it reprints in march. One of the best JRPGs on the system.

If you have a PSP, I would recommend Ys I & II Chronicles over the DS version.
