I have retentively quit smoking ( about 8 months no cig)
I did this by every-time I needed a smoke I would pull out the old gameboy sp and played pokemon or Fire emblem. After the first 4 months no more cravings.
Although I have weird dreams of Pikachu chain smoking while rocking back and fourth in a corner.
Have you ever done anything similar?

For various addictions I have. Though I usually end up replacing one game addiction with another. I'm looking at you Minecraft!

I recently just gave up smoking, only 2-3 weeks in so still getting cravings. Pacman got me through most of tonight.

Im pretty much playing fast paced games to get through it, mainly old school remakes and games on mame. Im finding it hard to focus on games that take a bit of thought and problem solving.

So yeah, games are my crutch at the moment haha.

I tend lean more towards games that grab my attention in general rather than fast pick up and play games. I feel like like I have to give all my attention to something else to wait the addiction out.

Nope. The only time in my life where I had a real problem was WoW, so in that sense gaming itself was the addiction. That was many years ago now so nope.

Gaming has always been about fun/enjoyment for me. It isn't something I simply do because I want to "escape" or I have nothing else to do and it is my only option.

I genuinely like gaming for gaming. RPGs are what I play the most so I guess you can say it is for enjoying a good story like a book also. It is also fun for just having fun with friends.

I used gaming to keep me away from addictions like alcohol and weed.
I remember my friends asked me if i wanted to get high over spring break i was like," dude the 3ds is coming out fuck off."
Gaming has kept me away from bad habits and it has become one but i would much rather be a gamer then a smoker or a alcoholic :)
Check out my youtube channel for everything gaming but mostly PS2 :D

Weed addiction? Interesting, i have never heard of that. I've seen people that smoked so much that they had a hard time stopping, but not because of addiction, just because it had become part of their daily routine.

Anyways, i don't want to get off-topic. I have never been addicted by anything, luckily. Well, i have to admit i had a slight addiction to Lord of the Rings Online a few years back, but that was all.

I haven't been addicted to anything but the MMO Runescape. I used to think about it all the time, dream about it, stay up all night on a school night playing it, rush home from school to play it, and it took over my life, my social life was dead and missed out of some of the greatest moments in highschool. 2 years later, I am now in grade 11 and recently broke the addiction. I no longer have cravings to play the game or dream about it, although getting enough sleep is still hard seeing how it's 1am on a school night as I write this because my body is so used to staying up late into the night I just can't fall asleep. I guess I kind of used working to break my addiction. I started taking shifts at work, hanging out with friends there after work and such (I work in a restaurant so everyone knows each other and are pretty good friends). I find some videogames the most addicting thing on the planet.

It will be hilarious when you go off to College Mike and you are getting plastered out of your mind. Or the first time you are with a girl.

3DS will be the last thing on your mind.
