Man, I am never buying anything from eBay that uses a stock photo.

I bought a copy of "Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories". The item was a stock photo though but the starting bid was .99 cents. I figured it was worth giving it a shot even though it had a stock photo. Well by the end of it, it went for $15 dollars. I figured "Well it might be a stock photo, but I'm sure it's going to come in great condition since it's new". Well it finally came, and guess what? It came banged up. The person just stuffed the game in a regular envelope, did not put any padding whatsoever, and the box is now warped with the instruction manuals all messed up inside, and even the wrapping felt like it was coming off. It was awful. In fact, I also recieved another game for the original Game Boy from way back in 1995. The box did show it's age, but even with that, it was bubbled wrapped and looked in better condition than my KH game. :peachcry: :peachcry: :peachcry:

I just found a replacement box on eBay and am now asking the condiion for it, but I am no longer buying something from eBay when they are using a stock photo. If I'm going to buy something, I want to see it before I buy it. I don't want to be surprised like that again.

Sounds like the damage was caused by poor packaging. I found that when you send a courtesy email to the seller after paying, stating that you've had previous items arrived far more damaged than described from poor packaging and how you would like it packed, they pack it rather well. I don't think buying off someone who puts a picture of it but may still pack it horribly will really solve your problem.

Stock photos can be annoying but understandable. The person might be selling lots of items where taking pictures would not be convenient. I think it is best to go by a seller's feedback.

Be wary of non stock photos as well. If the user is selling multiple copies of the same item, they sometimes just take the photo once. I've gotten several books that had non stock photos with the dust jacket in nice shape and all, and the book came looking horrible. If you are going to spend any decent amount of money, always contact the seller first to make sure of the condition.

I Like Games.

My eyes are trained to avoid stock photos on ebay, I glance through auction thumbnails really fast, and just ignore any auctions using anything but an actual real photo, unless I need 1 specific game in complete condition then thats the only exception, but their description must say complete with everything in excellent condition.

Pretty much what Pete said, but I've still had issues with it. One person used a stock photo of Mass Effect that didn't look stock, but even if it was, the stock photo was of the original version. The copy I got in the mail was the Platinum Hits version. I absolutely can't stand platinum hits games.. I ended up trading it and $15 to a friend for his 60GB HD.

Then theres also the issue when they say it's in mint condition and the box looks like garbage. The disc is in mint condision, but the box and manual look like they were sent over to Germany in WWII and have the bullet holes to prove it. I'm exagerating of course, but I did get a manual one time that literally looked as if it were crumbled up like a failed math test.

I actually ended up buying a box of 50 mint game cases for $30 to put all my games in so they don't look like garbage on display. I've found it to be worth it. Now when I get a case that someone stepped on and the game, artwork and manual are fine, I don't sweat it :D
