Crossover guru

One of my personal hobbies is making games and I have been in a gaming stump. I've had no spark to get me back to game making and the reason why is because I like to program more than any other aspect of game creation. I've had ideas for RPG games, fighting games, and other genres but I always loose motivation because with those games you gotta plan ahead and draw concepts and plan the story as well as any conflicts and I just lose interest if I plan for too long. But I want to get my game making spirit back because I have an idea for a crossover game I want to create. I kinda lost my edge but I know just how to get it back: make a puzzle game. I already made 2 in the past and the reason why I managed to complete those is because it's easier to do. You can start out by planning how the mechanics work and the program them all in one go. Then after the engine is done, you can then proceed to do characters, graphics, story and everything else with something to go by. Or at least that's how I work. I have a lot of ideas for puzzle games and decided on my next one which I call Alchema, a game that is based on alchemy and mixing colors. I've had this idea on my head for sometime but I never really set up any rules for it. So I'm trying to figure out how a game about mixing colors would play in a puzzle game and this is what I'm coming up with. I'm hoping you guys can give me some feedback or ideas: The way you play this game is just like any other puzzle game with pieces falling from the top. They decend onto the floor and you gotta line up 2 of the same color to burst them. This is what the playfield will look like: ![]() The number of cells will change but this is just for example. In the game, you are presented with 8 colored drops, 3 representing the primary colors, 3 reprensenting the subtractive colors, and the 2 monochratic colors. But you are not stuck with these colors. You can infuse another color upon them to change their properties like so. ![]() The drops in the game are designed so they can accept two different types of color at each side, though if both sides end up with the same color, the droplet will weld together and you will be stuck with a single colored drop. How do you change the colors of each side? In the game, you'll have a dropper that allows you to soak in a specific color and add it to the drop you get next. Depending on what color you choose will change the drops properties. You have to add a specific color, otherwise the drop will become polluted and useless. You can also revert back to a blank by turning it black or white, but black and white drops can be useful as wild drops when they land on the bottle. What is the bottle? The bottle is the playfield as I showed earlier. The object is to land drops of the same color and have them match so a chemical reaction happens like so: ![]() In the game, the drops won't float, I'm just using this as an example. As you can see, the red portion of the drops are touching another red portion. When this happens, a chemical reaction will occur and will cause something to happen. In this case, the droplets touching the red areas will burn and take in all the other elements sorrounding it to create a precious metal. So the object of this game is to mix the drops, add them to this bottle, have the colors match, create a chemical reaction, and recieve a metal from said reaction. But that's as far as I got. I don't know what exactly the goal is. Since the game's theme is alchemy, the story would revolve aroud characters aiming to create something out of it. So all this work would lead to making something they wish for, but I have no idea what that something is. So I'm open for ideas. What do you guys think? Edited by J-R, Jun 8 2011, 01:08 AM.
