Most people like the Zelda's. The Super Mario Bros. games are classics as are the Megaman games. I would also recommend Metroid. Tons of great games on that system.

Bionic Commando and Contra are good shooters. Battletoads is a really fun beat 'em up. Finally, Blaster Master is a great sidescrolling shooter. Good luck with your game searching endeavors.
