Sometimes when you rediscover your childhood treasures, they aren't quite as polished when you are an adult. Have no fear! I take it upon myself this week to compile the Atari 2600 games that are still a lot of fun even today. In an age of 3D HD graphics, surround sound and multi-core processors, there is still a lot of fun to be had in many old Atari games from 30 years ago.

I love playing atari 2600 games, it's just annoying how people today say "if it's not current gen, then it sucks." That statement really pisses me off.

Well many Atari games do "suck" because the games could be produced in the matter of weeks. Many companies would make game just for the profit and not for the motive. Also, anyone could make a video game, even Quaker Oats. Anyone could make a game for the Atari, even if Atari didn't give them permission. Video games in the 70's and early 80's was a time of anarchy; there had yet to be any regulations as there is now.

It's because of the Atari 2600 and sheer number of crappy games, that Nintendo promoted their Seal of Quality on the NES. Nintendo wanted to make sure their new console didn't fall into the same problem of companies pushing out massive amounts of shovelware... by limiting the number of games they could put out as well.

Empire Strikes Back is the best Star Wars game ever. I'd rather play that than Star Wars: Old Republic.

hehe I'd rather play Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic (before it became a mmo, because those are popular, I guess now) than the Empire Strikes Back game, but I get your point. Yeah there were some terrible games, but there are a lot of good ones too. Also the creativity back then (and in the NES/SNES/Genesis etc era too) really was something to behold. I play some current games today, but a lot of videogames don't really capture my imagination or hold my attention like they used to. Maybe that's just growing up or being depressed at times ha

I still play a fair amount of newer games though and at the very least know something about most new games even if I hadn't played them.
Slowbeef: Hold on it's the evil wizard who's spinning and striking a pose. And also giant swords, why the hell not.
