Found this link for Genesis RPGS. Sadly I haven't heard of most of those games... Got me thinking, what other good SEGA RPGs are there across their consoles?

That article was interesting but they forgot Soliel aka Crusader of Centy which isn't a bad action rpg. (My bad its on page 2 .... but the coverage on it was crap).

Here's a quick list from me of all the great RPGs I've played on Sega Consoles.

Master System:
Phantasy Star (The epic turn base adventure)
Wonderboy 3 The Dragon's Trap (A fun side scrolling action RPG)
Dragon Crystal (A rogue-like RPG from sega)
Miracle Warriors (A very very hard Turned Based RPG)
Golvellius: Valley of Doom (A mish mash of different play styles makes it a unique experience)
Ultima IV Quest of the Avatar (A long epic PC style RPG)
Golden Axe Warrior (A very fun yet challenging Zelda clone).

Megadrive: Pretty much read the article they list them all. But definitely play Landstalker, Shining Force games and Phantasy Star Games, Story of Thor/Beyond Oasis, Crusader of Centy, Traysia and Wonderboy in Monster World.

Game Gear: The one sega gaming system I haven't played many RPGs for but I from the ones I've played I would reccomend: Shining Force Final Conflict (Japan only but there is a fan translation) and Ax Battler (not really a rpg but it has rpg elements in it).

Mega/Sega CD : Again I haven't had a chance to play some of the gems on this system but the 2 I played are Shining Force CD (what can I say I'm a huge fan of the series :P lol I'm guessing nearly everyone knows that by now) and Popful Mail a funny and challenging Side Scrolling Action RPG.

Saturn:
Virtual Hylide (.....well it hasn't aged well , but was decent at the time)
Mystaria the Realms of Lore (Awesome Strategy RPG ... I highly recommend it)
Shining Wisdom (A fun Zelda clone set in the Shining Force universe)
Dark Savior (A very unique multi scenario Action RPG)
Story of Thor 2/Legend of Oasis (still need to finish it but I've played nearly 70% of it and its fantastic)
Shining The Holy Ark: A epic 1st person dungeon crawler which is also a prequel to ....
Shining Force 3 (A epic 3 scenario Strategy RPG ... I got to finally play and finish it this year and I gotta say its one of the greatest experiences I've ever had).

Dreamcast: I only played 2 RPGs on the Dreamcast and that was Phantasy Star Online and Timestalkers. Timestalkers was a huge let down for me but Phantasy Star Online is great .... does suffer from a lack of plot ... but thats not really the main focus of the game.

Thats my quick list. There are more Sega made gems across the other consoles after the Dreamcast ended.

Either 1 or 2 , but 2 is the far superior game and it was the game that got me into playing the series. :)

Sega Does What Nintendon't

Skies of Arcadia on the Dreamcast or the GameCube port (Skies of Arcadia Legends) is a great Sega RPG!

Record of Lodoss War on the Dreamcast is a great Diablo II clone game.

I love how you can get away with an entire list and then say, just a quick list.

But anyway, Sega made some fantastic RPGs. I recently finished Phantasy Star 1 and Skies of Arcadia and they are fantastic. I am also a big fan of Valkyria Chronicles.

I still have delve into Shining Force, Shenmue and Sakura Wars series but I heard nothing but good things.

Yeah, Record of Lodoss War is awesome. It's long, too. I am about 21 hours into it now and still have a bit to go from what I can tell. That's not counting all the times I've died, either. :D

Not too much more I can add to these lists. Sega has really pulled away from RPGs for the most part this generation aside from Valkyria Chronicles.

The Yakuza series feels like a blended Shenmue with a small mix of Grand Theft Auto and RPG elements. They are certainly worth checking into if you want something that feels Japanese but is also a little gritty and fun.

The Shining Soul series on the GBA is always seemingly forgotten. They are basically watered down Diablo clones with cute graphics. The second game fixes some of the problems of the first (such as finally having a quick save feature) and is all around better. It would be nice to have friends to play the game with too. Look into the Shining Force: The Resurrection of Dark Dragon as well if you want Shining Force on the go.

I nearly forgot...If you can manage to scrounge the money or find it cheap, perhaps the best RPG that was ever produced by Sega was Panzer Dragoon Saga. A whimsical adventure that has beautiful atmosphere and music. It's one of those games that has a lot of feeling and emotion with very little being said most of the time.

I've been loving really pouring time into Phantasy Star on the Master System. I've actually never beaten any RPG before (I was never a big time gamer -- most I did was 15 hours of Final Fantasy 7), but I'm committed to beating this one. I've got my 4 characters right now. I did get stuck once where I needed to go online for help (had to ask for a secret 3 times -- not exactly intuitive).

I'm probably going to take a short break after beating the game, but I've purchased a bunch of RPGs that I'd like to dig my teeth into (i.e. SMS: Miracle Warriors, Golden Axe Warrior).

Another good RPG series on the Dreamcast is El Dorado Gate. It was released in 7 parts but all seven can be picked up relatively easily and I don't believe they are incredibly expensive.
