I recently just picked up a good lot of SNES games. most of them were games that I very much enjoyed in my childhood.
sadly most which of which I didnt care for in my older age.
Even though I cherish the memories I had as a kid staying up days on end playing Avengers, world heros, and looney tunes Olympics
I just dont care much for them now.
any body else have similar experiences ?

As much as i hate to admit it sonic adventure is just is not as good as it was back in the day. I loved it as a kid(DX version i never owned a dreamcast) but after i downloaded it on XBLA it's not as fun as i remember it.

For me personally, i'd have to say "sim city", "Utopia" and "Supremacy: your will be done". Just off the top of my head of course. There are probably many that fall in this catagory. I guess its just what your willing to put up with really whether its bad graphics, bad sound, annoying interfaces long loading times or just goddamn bad contols haha. Nostalgia can make up for a lot of that to be honest.

Anyway, the reasons for my picks...

Sim city will always be a classic, but it hasnt aged well at all and you would just be better off playing sim city 2000. I think its even just the music in SC2000 that really helps, never mind having way more depth and functional graphics that still hold up today...IMO. :P
Supremacy and Utopia were phenomenal games at the time. With a lot of depth and variety for the time they could steal hours, if not days of your time without you even realising. Sadly thier clunky interfaces have let them down and are really a chore to get going. I still fins myself playing them from time to time but rarely finish a game. :-/

Its a classic and i still love it...but i cant help but feel i should just be playing simcity 2000

Strangely, cant seem to find Amiga or Atari ST versions of this game on youtube.
Never played the snes version but the vid will have to suffice i guess.

Still a great game if you can get your head around the rather frustrating menu's.

Dragon Ball Z Budokai 1 easily is one of those that just don't hold up too well. I beat it recently, it still looks okay to me, but the game play isn't what it was. Oh well, at least it's still okay to an extent, but nostalgia helped me beat the game again.

Altered Beast is another quick one, it looked so kick-ass when I saw it. I wanted to play it more, but I found out later that it wan't that great (but still passable), and it's a lot shorter then I recall.

Last week I went back and played Sonic Adventure 2 on the Gamecube and I remember it being a lot better back in the day. Maybe it''s just because I just beat Sonic Generations and that game is INCREDIBLE so it makes Adventure 2 seem a lot more primitive. It's still one of my favorite games of all time though just because of the memories I have of it playing as a kid.

Sonic 1 doesn't hold up to me simply because of the lack of a spin dash.

It breaks my heart to say this because I love this game and still think it's cute, but Psycho Fox is a pain in the ass to play today. Building up momentum is utterly frustrating and stifles the whole experience. It doesn't help that it's a one hit you die scenario.

[tailsyawn] C'est la vie.

At first I thought Goldeneye was unplayable to today's standards but if you give it a try in multiplayer with a friend or two (or three) you might just end up having a lot of fun, I know I did yesterday when I was playing with my cousin, never thought I would get into it again and I can honestly say that I almost enjoyed it as much as a lot of other modern shooters.

Splatterhouse 3 for the Genesis. I still like the game a lot, but the gameplay gets repetitive and the story elements aren't implemented as well as I thought they were in the past.

When I was young, I thought the polygonal games like Star Wars Arcade on 32X (the rich little bastard on the far end of the block had a Genesis, Sega CD and 32X) and Star Fox on SNES were super awesome. While Star Wars is still playable, Star Fox isn't at all.

I also thought PS1 and Saturn games were the coolest things ever in 1995/1996. Daytona USA was the most realistic game ever. Unfortunately I can't control the car without analog controls these days.

Like most retro consoles, the classics really do hold up over time. That's what makes them classics. Check out Super Mario World, Link to the Past, and Super Metroid and then tell us that they aren't as good as you remember. :D

For me, however, I have a difficult time playing a lot of stuff on the N64. I can get over the graphics, but I've gotten so used to having twin sticks in 3-D games that having one of them taken away makes me more focused on the controls than the game, and that ruins it.

Stunt Race FX is kinda tough for me to come back to. I used to like playing it with friends back in the day, but now it's just so floaty and weird, the controls. Give me Blur or a classic Ridge Racer any day.

GTA 3 is quite average to mediocre nowadays. The original warcraft was quite primitive. The original Doom series was clunky. Half-Life wouldn't be that great today as well.

Funny, I was thinking about the same game. Back in the day, I finished Star Wing/Star Fox and traded it at the store for Stunt Race FX to have something new to play. At the time at least I could play it, but trying it now it doesn't give me anything more than a headache!

Pretty much any old school fps, also old racing games that were more on the simulation side of things generally don't hold up well.

I don't find myself enjoying Faxanadu as much now as I did as a kid. Just way too grindy nowadays.

I'd say it's more of his opinion. I just realized that I personally do not think Super Mario World does not hold up. I never played it before but I've always been a spectator and that game looked great back then but I tried playing it recently and that game did not hold up for me. It's one of those games I wish I played before in my youth to appreciate it today because I do not like it. Yet I recently played Alien Soldier, another game that not only did I not play but never heard of and when I played it, I was blown away by it.

So I do believe everyone here is stating an opinion, which I won't take offense to.

I recently went back to play the old resident evil games and silent hill one. both of which took me a good while just to get the hand of the controls again and even then they seemed broken by todays standards.
still love them however they stand out when compared to how simplified controls are today, another is final fantasy 7. took using X as a continue button for too long

After playing Bayonetta I found the Devil May Cry series pretty hard to go back to.
