I recently just picked up a good lot of SNES games. most of them were games that I very much enjoyed in my childhood.
sadly most which of which I didnt care for in my older age.
Even though I cherish the memories I had as a kid staying up days on end playing Avengers, world heros, and looney tunes Olympics
I just dont care much for them now.
any body else have similar experiences ?

Grandia for the PS1 I felt did not hold up at first when I replayed it after about 10 years. The graphics and slowness of the battle system felt so hard to get into. After getting back into the game, took about 4 hours, the battle system felt familiar again and that feeling left. I still think the game is great and honesty feel like it's one that I could always go back to at this point, with a little time to re-feel it out.

It sucks that some games take that long of playing just to get back into the groove of them :l

Goldeneye. I can't stand playing that game anymore.
It's funny you said that because as soon as I read the title of this thread that's the first game that came to mind. I remember some friends and I dusted off the Nintendo 64 and threw in Goldeneye, preparing to relive old memories of playing multiplayer. I wish we'd never put it in because the game just doesn't hold up. I'm glad I played it when it first came out and was a big deal because now its just not enjoyable. The controls, the graphics, everything is just dated beyond playability.

I don't find the fragmented approach of sonic adventure 2 to hold up at all. The chao system is the only exception, still love those!

Same thing happened to me. I figured with friends it'd be better but we were befuddled by the use of one analog stick and N64 3 Arm controls. Real shame, I had a lot of fun memories in that game.

It's not quite "old" but my friend recently let me borrow KOTOR 1 & 2 and I just couldn't really get into them. The combat system just seemed so rustic and basic. Maybe I'll try and give it another shot?

I tried to play Tomb Raider recently, not exactly thrilling. Karnov is another one...used to love that one in the arcade and on NES, but I didn't enjoy it a bit when I tried it the other day. Turned it right off. :-/

Sonic Adventure is just is not as good as it was back in the day.
Yeah, totally. Especially the first one. SA2 holds up better...I was playing them just two days ago actually and felt the same way.

Operation Flashpoint: Cold War Crisis, it used to be mindblowing back in the day, now it's like impossible to play. Which is odd since CS 1.6 still holds up today.

Edit: come to think of it, that is the case with most old simulators. Okay my vote goes to very early 2000's + 90's simulators.

I'm going to be the sole person who believes that the sonic adventure series holds up well. It might not be perfect, but I still have more fun playing those than alot of the new sonics. Anything after SA2 before Unleashed holds up horribly however.

I think lots of PS1 RPG's don't hold up too well. Being so long and grind heavy makes them tedious, and frankly boring. SNES RPG's and stuff after PS1 hold up much better.

I have Karnov on NES but I haven't played it... I could join your group too thanous...

As for games that didn't hold up, I've come across a few in my time, but I'd say, two of my favorite games have not held up well... The graphics on FF7 no longer have the same appeal at all that they once did. Not even in a novelty way and that is still my all time favorite games. Eternal Champions also did not hold up well for me on any level. I always enjoyed that game back in the day. Goldeneye's controls fell apart as soon as the new standard control scheme for FPS's came to be. Same thing for Doom I and Doom II without mouselook... just being able to look up and down feels needed in those games... I need to stream those and the old Quake games... quit giving me ideas forums...
