You probably would like a pc engine duo r better than just a turbo grafx since well the japanese had a LOT more games than we did over here

EDIT: and you can play both American and Japanese cd games in the duo r

The Turbo-Grafx 16 had mostly 2D shooters. It does have some other games that are decent including 2D platformers and a few noteworthy RPGs (Neutopia). The Turbo Duo is great for the RPGs (Book of Ys) however it does command a heavy price tag. I would purchase a Turbo-Grafx 16 & research the titles that seem interesting and see if you like it. There are some great titles that are cheap for the system.

If you like arcade-style gameplay, then the Turbo Grafx is for you. Like it's been said though I would recommend a DUO as well. It will open up the doors to the large CD library as well.

If you can find/afford a Duo-RX, get that instead.

lol Surely thats a matter of opinion really.

Like Sdcpro said, research some of the games available and make your decision that way. If i could afford one(and find one for that matter) i'd snap it up in a second. Between Bomberman, the Crush pinball games, Air Zonk and the incredible amount of shmups...i think thats worth your money right there.

Too crummy? Seriously?

Bonk Series
Military Madness
Legendary Axe
Bloody Wolf
Crush Series
Chew Man Fu
New Adventure Island
Exile Series
Cosmic Fantasy 2
Neutopia series
Ninja Spirit
Splatter House
Cadash
Parasol Stars
Bomberman series........ the list goes on and on!

OOH Ya it's also the best console out there if you happen to be into SHMUPS!

If your into great arcade ports of the 16 bit era, SHMUPS or just looking for the great console exclusives then go for it. The systems library is great and if you go for a DUO or later upgrade with the CD add-on it will further open the doors to some great console exclusives that any fan of gaming would be more than glad to add to there collection.

I don't enjoy collecting for the NES much at all. I'm not into the NES much and don't enjoy the games personally, for the most part. I'm having a great time collecting for the TG-16 & Master System though.

maybe it depends on what you grew up with, but nes had better games hands down, you cant dispute that. thats why it was so successful. personally i would go as far as to say the nes was a better system than genesis because of the games, i had genesis as a kid and i have absolutly no nostalgia for it. honestly, super mario 1 has more depth to the gameplay than sonic 1, i cant understand how people are so into sonic and genesis. esspecially with super mario world comeing out the same year as sonic 1, and not counting the graphical difference, just the gameplay of super mario world was light years ahead of sonic

I grew up with the Super Nintendo and never had a Genesis or TG-16 growing up. I had never even touched a Genesis or heard of the TG-16 growing up. I never had an NES or Master System either. I just like the games on the TG-16 & Master System and don't care for the NES games all that much besides the select few. I'm just sayin that if you don't like the TG-16 or Master System, that's fine, but at least defend your point on calling them "crummy" and state that it's your opinion.

I like the NES, but its nowhere near one of my fav consoles. Had Nintendo not monopolised the market by tying the game developers hands and restricting what they could create games for AND how often they could release them...i personally think we would have seen far more of the great NES titles appearing on the Master System.

Indeed they had some incredible developers under thier belt, but given the choice i think they would have loved to squeeze the power out of the Master System. The Nes has some great titles, but it's long list of garbage cant be ignored either.

With reference to sonic 1...its a great game. Its fun to play, looks fantastic and it has one of the best soundtracks ever made. These traits carry on all the way up to S&K too. The overall vibe of the Sonic is completely different from Mario too, the different settings of the levels etc and i think its a bit darker too. Innocent animals being imprisoned and encased in robots and a maniacal scientist creating endless weapons to try and gut this hedgehog lol.

I dont think complexity really makes a game better either, if that was true people would have given up consoles long ago and we would all be PC gamers.

Should you buy a Turbografx-16?.......YES YES 100% YES, although I lean more towards the PC Engine. Japanese..sure, but very little if you're not playing RPG's so it makes little difference to gameplay for your average game and the library is huge compared to the TG-16. Some incredible games available for the thing and it's a beautiful looking machine, so yeah...get a PC Engine, or a TG-16 if you're prepared to have a tiny library. :)
