After a rough first three quarters of the year, Nintendo is closing of 2011 with a bang. I'll be honest it wasn't that long ago that I worried that Nintendo was going to make it longer than a few more years. But now all those fears have passed. The Wii is my favorite system of this generation and I bought the 3DS day one and I was very fearful of the direction Nintendo was headed going into the Fall of this year. They announced huge losses, the 3DS wasn't selling, and the reception to Wii U was lukewarm. However they have turned it around since the month of November.

Wii
This week it was announced that Mario Kart Wii surpassed 30 million units for it's life with 4 million of those packed in with the Wii. Mario Kart Wii was the 9th best selling game last week moving over 400,000 copies and the game has been out for almost 4 years. The Wii outsold has outsold the PS3 since the November and is trailing the Xbox 360 very closely. The weekend of Black Friday was the Wii's highest selling ever. Skyward Sword became the fastest selling Zelda ever in it's first week of sales. Wii Sports Resort will surpass the 30 million milestone by the end of the year.

3DS
In it's first week Super Mario 3D Land has become the fastest selling portable Mario. Last week 6 out of the 10 top selling games were on a Nintendo platform with Mario Kart 7 leading the pack, selling over 2 million copies in it's first two weeks. The 3DS has surpassed the first year totals of the DS in only 8 months and the 3DS has become Australia's fastest selling gaming device and sold over 1.3 million units last week. Last week thanks to Monster Hunter 3G the 3DS had higher sales in Japan than launch week.

All this is great news for a Nintendo fan like myself. The 3DS has finally found it's audience and the week is still selling great. I am still very cautious about the Wii U, however after the re-unveil at E3 2012 hopefully we will be amazed at what the system has to offer. Nintendo has proved once again that they know how to face adversity, there is a reason they have been making hardware for over 25 years and here's to another 25 years.

I have also had my doubts about wether Nintendo would last much longer. With the Wii, it was always the concern about hardcore gamers being left in the cold while plenty of titles were being made to please casual gamers. But throughout it's lifespan, there have been a number of great hardcore Nintendo titles released (Mario Galaxy series, Donkey Kong Country Returns, Kirby's Epic Yarn, etc). I had the same worries with the 3ds, but not so much the whole hardcore/casual gamer thing, but just the amount of titles released that were worth playing in general. But again, Nintendo somehow managed to satisfy me with games like Mario 3d Land, Mario Kart 7, Star Fox 64 3d, etc. So my point is, I guess there is a good reason why Nintendo has been going strong for all these years, and I have no reason to think they will be slowing down any time soon.

Nintendo has made a comeback.

They've released a ton of games that they knew gamers would like.

Then they announced Xenoblade.

I'm in love with Nintendo ATM.
