[Article] [Site] It really is how it sounds. The reason I find this interesting is because it's an obvious claim towards a fetish and I still can't figure out if it's trying to pose itself as a "breakthrough" game or not. It consists of 6 girls, 5 with disabilities and one that doesn't. The game says it shouldn't be played by anyone under 18, thus I'm assuming it contains some form of nudity (clearly since the idea came from 4Chan). My main gripe against this is that all the women are anerixic, thus the game can't be taken seriously as a "breakthrough" game, it still takes everything to a sexual level. It's a shame, dating sims could explore how the mind works but they are seen as masterbation material for some. |

Says someone who hasn't played the game. They released the first act to it a LOOOONG time ago, and maybe even the second act. I don't know. But it's really more comedy than perversion. There are some really offensive disability jokes in it, though. So anyone interested in playing it, be warned. Edited by Bolto, Jan 4 2012, 03:26 PM.

The full game is out, and free, as said in the article. I was refering to how the characters are done. They're all excessivly skinny with the first thing pointed out in the concept sheet for characters "a deaf girl. The class rep type. Big boobs (heart)", ontop of that a trailerfor it went through some images over the past 5 years of it being made, it's kinda obvious why it could be seen as perversion. So don't take any offence from what I say, I am just refering to what I've seen, as I havn't played it. I just think that it'd be interesting to see how people would percieve a dating sim in which there was a varity, to see how people would act upon more than just physical appearance but I know it wouldn't work for the most part because on a large scale for multiple reasons. |

Yes, but this is not at all what Katawa Shoujo is about or even trying to do. It's about taking your standard dating sim where a guy moves to a new school and wants to fall in love and/or have sex with one of a set of girls, and making it completely messed up and disturbing. There is some sexuality to the game, but it is far from the point of it. I believe that is even an option to get rid of any of the nudity scenes, if there even are any. Katawa Shoujo is about dark humor, not 'seeing people for who they really are'. |

My mate said you can turn adult content off but you say that taking a basic concept and making it disabled people would mess it up and make it disturbing but this game will be picked up mostly by those with certain fetishes... And those who find humor out of it (such as my friend saying that the armless one is a super sniper because she can use chopsticks with her toes.) The point is, weither for humor, fetish or whatever other reason, the game is still quite interesting to see, the concept is unique. Infact, the idea of you saying it's disturbing cause it's disabled people shows that the human mind is locked in a certain way that says that different is wrong... (I'm not saying that in reference to you, I mean it's a common way to think.) |

I just finished the game, and I was right. The nudity scenes are very minor and they were actually pretty tasteful, for a nudity scene. And that's not me trying to justify some crazy hentai addiction or anything like that. Because I'm really not into that kind of stuff, I've pretty much been playing this game solely for the dark humor and story. It's legitimately a really good dating sim game, not that I've played many, though. It's funny and the way that they handle each character is interesting and very unique. It's far from perverted. If you aren't offended easily it's worth at least trying out, because it really is unique. Definitely not what you would expect after hearing that it was made by 4Chan users. |

I started playing it last night cause I was able to find a download that wasn't a torrent. I'm really enjoying it, I honestly thought it was just a school with disabled people but it's much more intellegent because the character you follow is someone who gains a heart disability and he's trying to get used to this new place...BUT he is an arsehole. (I can't stand his character) All the girls are shown in a really well way, they aren't all so generic as you'd expect and it's related to that they are disabiled. Here's the way I've started thinking about it. It's like a book, in which you follow this story, you aren't meant to be portraying yourself, you're just following along this really well written story. It's got so much options that makes it really unique, such as being able to scroll back in conversations incase you accidently skipped anything, most the emphasis is on the story. If you want the explicit scenes, theres a skip button to go straight to options but if you're like me and my friends who've been playing it, you can sit back and spend hours just reading and enjoying the story. Lol this game... Man... First off, I would like to go on the record and say I've beaten the story arcs for all the girls aside from Shizune, mainly because I hate her and find her story bland in comparison to much of the others. That being said, I found this game/sim/vn to be very well done and handled itself very maturely. I had never experienced a VN before, so the concept of it, added to the fact it's been called a "disabled girl dating sim" kind of put me off at first. Fortunately, I'm the type to always give things a fair shot before writing them off (which has yet to steer me wrong). This made me feel genuine emotions for the characters, which is saying quite a bit to be honest. It made me look past their more prominent features and get to know the actual person. After a while, I forgot they were even handicapped in any way. That being said, my main complaint is... Well... Let's put it this way... When I was telling a friend about the game, he asked what the main character's disability was. My reply was a quick, unrehearsed, "He's an idiot." This is honestly a very well done gam-... Project and anyone who has their interest piqued should really give it a go. As others have said, you can turn off the sex scenes if you don't want to see them (or don't want someone walking in and seeing them in most peoples cases I'm sure). My advice would be play through the story as you would if it were you in real life, at least your first time through. I did with my first 2 playthroughs and it really enhanced the experience for me. Btw, Emi and Lilly are my favorite characters ![]() |
