How do you organize your games/collection?; Something that's I've been wondering for a long time, but have been too lazy to ask

These aren't the droids we're looking for.

I've been meaning to make this thread for quite some time, so here goes: How do you guys organize your games? I'm assuming a lot of you organize them by system, then alphabetically.

Personally, for some stupid reason, I organize mine by system, then by when I bought them.

Yep.

I know, I'm weird.

For example, the first Nintendo DS game I bought was Animal Crossing: Wild World, so it's the first DS game on my shelf. It gets tedious at times, but for some reason it just feels right for me.

For personally i have the games organized by system and alphabetically, with the greatest hits games set off to the side. And with the PS3 I have the old style games with the red logo separated from the ones with the newer logo.

System, then alphabetically. Occasionally I will break that little rule if it comes down to chronology. For example here in Europe the sequel to Dark Cloud was called Dark Chronicle (as opposed to Dark Cloud 2); if I organised those games alphabetically, that would mean I'd put the second game before the first. So I use nerdy discretion when needed, but otherwise I just keep it simple. I have to have order though. It feels weird if I don't.

No rhyme no reason for me. Plop them on and make them look natural like I took the case out and put it back in

I organize mine by system and then alphebetically. I put all the greatest hits or platinum hits or watever at the end of the normal games. Not sure why I do this but I do. And also I only alphebatize my games if the collection is over 30, just the way I like it. If you guys want (not that I'm trying to brag or anything) but check out my backloggery: my name on there is gamefreak88, not sure why tho.

Sega Does What Nintendon't

I put mine together by console and then by genre... so like all the RPGs are together than the platformers so on and so on. I also place all first party games together.

I put mine by system (first hand-held then console,) alphabetical, size (largest to smallest,) and retro games on another book shelf.

By system and then alphabetically.

It just looks right to me to see them in alphabetical order.

Easier to find the games too ^.^

Just by system then alphabetically.

I used to keep all my Megadrive EA games together as they all have this big yellow section on them, which i might do again as they look very messy mixed up in the middle of all the other games.

I organise by system and them by series or creators (such as the DS Final Fantasy games together and then other DS SE games beside them like Chrono Trigger), except for my PS2 non-rpg games alphabetically with the rpgs by themselves.

I just do by system and alphabetically like you said, no special section for greatest hits or a change in label (like the psp and ps3 have, which is annoying haha)

I grab all my games, and put them in the bathtub. I mix them up with a strong stick I found in my yard one day. I mix them up so its random, in the interest of fairness.

I then get a huge jug of maple syrup, and cut it with fluorescent pink dye with glitter in it. I then proceed to poor the jug into the bath while I stir the games round. I then stir for a few minutes afterwards, to ensure they've mixed correctly.

I then meticiously sift through the games, and sort in order of pink glitter coverage. I stack on the shelves, with the least covered at the top, going down into a pink oblivion on the lower shelves.

Or alphabetically, with exceptions as Skooks suggested. Whichever takes my fancy.

System/Alphabetically. Also, all the Nintendo stuff is organized around each other and same goes for the other manufacturers. Some things may get a special place for their own though.

I guess I'm the only one that organizes them by how much I want to play them. Regardless of system. If I'm never going to play it, it goes into storage. If I want to play it but there is something else more interesting, it gets shuffled back a couple slots. When I finish all the games I REALLY want to play, I move those to storage and start at the top of the games that are next in line for most interesting to me.

I also collect arcade cabinets and pinball machines, but needless to say they are more for nostalgia and not to play (plus many have to be restored). And they also don't reside in my home because I wouldn't have room for much else, not that my house is big or that I have that many. Two cabinets take up a lot of space just by themselves ...

I have separate stacks of game boxes by system, with games grouped by genre or series. They're out of the way. I keep the disc-based games in disc wallets, DS and 3DS games are in Hori game cases, and Gameboy games are in some old cases that used to be for Zip disks. I try to keep the boxes out of view, but keep the games nearby in cases and disc holders.

I have five main bookcases/shelves. Nintendo, Sega, Playstation, Xbox, and misc. On each bookcase I put the most current console highest up and work backwards. (Of coarse they are alphabatized.)

Example: Wii is the highest shelve, Gamecube below that, then N64, then SNES and NES at the bottom.

I'm actually quite the organization freak. lol But it looks really nice and I'm happy with the setup.

not bad but it must get annoying when you lose track of what games you bought before others?!

By system, then alphabetically. There's exceptions when it comes to series that span more than one system, then i'll gather them all together. And I have a few "shrines" where I gather series i'm especially fond of and display them along with whatever merchandise I have for them.

I organize them by console, by genre, and put the games from the same series together. I don't bother with alphabetical order because my collection is small.

By system. I've tried alphabetically, but it's a pain in the ass when new games are added because my shelf is so full.
