I usually do video reviews but I had no recordings of me playing so I decided to try something different and put my English classes to use. Also another note: this is the first ever current gen game I have ever beat, because I just started playing current gen games, and I have never played Dragon Age: Origins.![]() Plot [[Outcome varies for each player/play through]] The plot to Dragon Age 2 is what drew me in most. The plot will captivate the player and will make them wonder what will happen next. The game starts out with Varric the dwarf being dragged to a chair in a dark room where he is asked questions about "the Champion" by a mysterious woman in armer. Varric starts to tell a story that he makes up on off the top of his head, which is the player tutorial. The mysterious woman is not convinced by this and asks him to tell her what really happen. Varric starts explaining the story which is split into three acts, just like a Shakespeare play. The story line is split into two basic formulas. One being the main plot while the other being the side quests that mainly use for time filler and leveling up. The first act begins with Hawke, the main character, with his brother or sister, depending on what the game generates, being chased by Dark Spawn. They eventually find their way to an old slave city called Kirkwall which most of the story is taken place. The characters try to find money by doings jobs that no one else will take. Hawke starts making new friends and the player meets their whole party in the first act. The player eventually does enough quests to enter the Deep Roads where the characters in the end have to fight a demon. At the end of the journey they find a treasure and Hawke becomes rich and moves up in society, purchasing the mansion his mother grew up in. The second act focuses a lot on the Qunari that Hawke meets in the first act. The Qunari are stuck in Kirkwall. They have been waiting for a ship to bring them back home for almost three years. The Qunari start to become restless and start trying to take control of the city. The Qunari start seeing the wrong that is going on in Kirkwall. At the end of the act they start to burn down Kirkwall and over throw the city. Kirkwall is in the hands of Hawke and his/her team. After Hawke defeats the Qunari he/she becomes "Champion of Kirkwall." ![]() Now being "the Champion" Hawke has more input in government politics and this is were the game really gets good and the player won't be able to stop. Kirkwall is split into two groups; the mages which are looked down on and the Templar's who are part of the church. The constant fighting of the two makes Anders, one of the players mages, to destroy the church. After Anders destroys the church Hawke has to choose what side he/she wants to fight on. Hawke then fights along side the side the player chooses until he/she faces one of two alternate bosses (depending on your choices through out the game). After defeating the final boss, the story goes back to Varric and the mysterious woman. Now that she knows the whole story, the player discovers that she is searching for the Champion to help her and her forces. This wraps up the game. Dragon Age 2 is unique every time a a person plays it. This is only the basic story line to the game. For example, I would watch my girlfriend play Dragon Age 2 and our story's would turn out different. Even down to tiny details of our characters saying one line different. The cut scenes become part of the game play. Dragon Age 2 has the game play of the old FMV's of the 90's but actually does it right. The player doesn't watch a prerecorded cut scene when they make the "right" decisions instead the player receives more storyline to travel further with in their epic adventure that is tailored to the player's choices. Game Play The player has a party, with a maximum of four members at a time. The player can play as any member but he/she will always have their lead character, Hawke, that they customized themselves at the beginning of the game. The game has very nice controls and will please any RPG gamer. The gamer can either button mash by pushing the action button and constantly attacking enemies while depending on their party members to help them, or the one can be more tactical and control the actions of each individual character. What made the game very easy to play was the radial menu. When the player used this, the battle would freeze and this became a quick easy menu where one could chose a character and the actions of that character or be able to look at their environment and think about what their actions will be. The player could select potions and be able to control all four party members at once. The radial menu is what really makes this game pleasant for any RPG gamer. Also, after every battle all party members will be restored to full health so that the player won't be going through so many potions and they won't be stuck going into new battles with fainted party members. Over All Dragon Age 2 is not the greatest RPG by any means but it is still a must play. No other game will give a person as much replay value as Dragon Age 2 can. With a different out come every time the player will be mesmerized each time they play it. The controls are very nice and one will never be frustrated that they can't do anything and reloading health makes the game far much easier than ones traditional RPG. The game lasts around 24 hours but the gamer will replay it over and over again. I give the game an 8 out of 10. Dragon Age 2 is currently out for XBox 360, PlayStation 3, Games for Windows, and Mac OS. Dragon Age 2 for XBox 360 is also being sold for only $20 at ones local Wal-Mart.

Sorry my head is currently aching fairly badly so I haven't read the review yet but as someone who beat DA2 when it came out and then later bough DA:O i have to say that if you liked it and have time, try DA:O. My opinion of DA2 after completing was that it was maybe a 8/10 game but after beating the original which became one of my favourite games ever I went back and beat DA2 again and liked it a little bit better although not as much as origins. |

Emily, my girlfriend, says that Origins has a way better plot and gives you more freedom but there is no radial menu. Sounds like to me is DA:O has better story but DA2 has better game play. |

Great review. I think Dragon Age 2 was sadly overlooked by many people and highly underrated by others. It made my "Top Games of 2011" list
